It's me again. I just ordered the 90 amp alternator off ebay, and now I am looking for instructions on how to install the alternator myself. Just trying to save a few bucks if possible, and a step by step or something would be really helpful.

Thanks

You can usually find regular maintenance stuff like this on here or similar sites. I usually go to VFAQ for MANY things. I just quickly browsed for something pertaining to the alternator and here is something:

Alternator Removal (w/Bearing & Brushes)

Tells you how to remove it and putting it back in is just the reverse.

Take the advice that everyone keeps telling me and buy a service manual. I keep forgetting to grab one, but it has everything. Glanced at one in the store today. Usually available at DIY stores for around $30

picking up a chiltons or haynes wouldnt be bad. they are kinda shotty with some deeper jobs, but simple ones like alternators, starters etc. are covered pretty well and hard to mislead.

basically, unplug the alternator harness, and remove the alternator voltage feed nut, then remove the wire. release belt tension by loosening the top holding bolt, then the bottom (loosen, do not remove yet) fulcrum bolt. then loosen the tensioner bolt (if applicable) till you can remove the belt. remove belt, then finish removing the upper and lower alternator holding and fulcrum bolts. pull the alternator out (you may have to snake it out of the engine bay, id say from the bottom may be easiest.

install is the reverse of removal. this is a generic explanation, but you should be able to do it with relative ease if you are even remotely mechanically inclined.

Lol, I agree. I just disconnect it when I'm working with any non-switched source. So basically everything but the cigarette lighter LOL
