Alittle confused about engine type in dsm's

As far as I have read both the turbo and N/T 1g dsm's both have the 4g63 engine, and the 2g dsm's have the 4g63 in the turbo version and in the N/T version they have a christler motor. I know that the 6 or 7 bolt engine refers to how many bolts that are on the flywheel, but what is the 6 bolt and how is it better than the 7 what is the difference?

The 6 bolt came in the 1G and the 7 bolt in the 2G. The biggest reason people look for the 1G 6 bolt is because the 7 bolt is notorious for "crankwalk". That basically refers to unwanted movement in the crankshaft. Some argue that there is better/higher flow in the different heads and intakes, but the main issue being the crankwalk on the 2G's 7 bolt.

Also, don't assume it is a 4G63 because it's a DSM. Some also came with the 1.8 litre.

That's the simple version of your answer.

6bolts also have beefier rods, and slightly lower compression pistons. Stock for stock, the 1g head flows a lot better. Ported, you could argue either of them.

All of this could have been found using the vfaq, 1000faq, or a generalized seach on here.

Late 1G's also came with 7 bolt motors. I think it was 92.5 - 94.. someone correct me if i'm wrong. But as stated above me, the 7 bolt is a tough motor to deal with because of the crankwalk issue. I also belive the N/T 2G motor was a 420a motor?? Im sure someone can correct that too if thats not the case.

Correct, alot of people assume because it's a 1G, that it has to be a 6bolt. That's not the case.
