Air Intake

Dose anyone know of a air intake that you can easily run through the inner finderwel? I think this would work best for my car becasue i like to drive a lot in wet conditions and i dont want to deal wtih a vaccum valve for the cold air intake...also i dont want to pick up any hot air...k&n applications would be helpful

Unless you're going to be driving through a river or huge puddles, you dont have to worry about sucking up water.

Yeah you'll be fine, I've got an AEM CAI sittng right infront of the wheel well at the bottom under the intake box. No Bypass valve either.
I've beeen driving through rain storms for a while now, especially in the last couple of weeks, (seattle weather), Just don't GAS it when your intake is over a huge as puddle, other than that your good.

If you do have any hydrolock stories please share them, cause I wanna know what you did to actually get the air to suck up water.

Yeah you'll be fine, I've got an AEM CAI sittng right infront of the wheel well at the bottom under the intake box. No Bypass valve either.

they are telling the truth ive only had problems with my cai once and that was because i was traveling through dayton in a tropical storm. i hydrolocked it shut of my engine i coasted to an overpass sat for a lil bit started up and drove to the gas station to switch to a ram air. didnt really hurt anything and unless your in that kinda rain i wouldnt worry.

just a quick question for you guys with the AEM CAI, where abouts does the bypass valve go anyway? since it's a one piece tube the only place that would work would be right before the TB but for some reason that doesn't seem right in my mind...damn sleep deprivation making me think too much

Well to the best of my knowledge, you have to have like a muffler shop or anyone who can cut a tube I guess, cut the tube about 4-6inches from where the tube starts to go down, then you just put the bypass valve inbetween and clamp it back together. Simple.

I just haven't bothered because I"m going to be turbo'ing my car in the next month, so I didn't want to waste the $50 on it.

Dont even bother with the bypass valve its to much of a power tradeoff.I think its cool for a little piece of mind when you drive over those 4ft ponds !

yeah, I honestly don't think I'd need one even though I live in Vancouver (it's always the rainy season here) and God knows I'm too lazy to put one on I was just wondering where it went anyway

makes sense, not entirely sure why I didn't think of that in the first place ....Sigh.... after I get my suspension fixed it's back to putting cash away for the turbo
