Are the 1st Gen air conditioner use R12 or R13? My ac just suddenly not blow cold air anymore after a Clutch change? That's the thing that baffled me. Havent used a multimeter to check the sensors yet though. I was thinking about getting a AC bottle from AutoZOne and refill it to see if maybe it just ran out or if it is leaking. But the thing is the AC worked perfect before the clutch job. Ideas?

Well, if it's R12, you aren't going to the store to get a bottle of it... expect to pay a lot for an R12 recharge, which has to be done at a certified shop...

If it's R134a(which I don't think 1g's are) then you can buy the bottle of it.

Perhaps you knocked a line loose when you were doing the clutch job..

r134 wasn't mandated until 96-97 I think...
a 1g will have r12... has to be done at a shop.

you can convert your R12 system to R134a in your driveway. If the R12 system is empty, you won't be doing anything agenst the law, and you still need a vaccum pump. Venting R12 is illegal. But keep in mind if the system is empty that it's most likely a leak, and that's why it's better to have a shop do it.

i know one of the employees at the autozone out by me converted his blazer from r12 to R134 or something....he didnt drain it or anything, he just took a refill bottle, hooked it up and it blows cold again...he says the only possible bad thing is the seals going bad...but its been perfect so far(about a year)...i tried it on my car, but i cannot find the right connector....anyone know where i can get one????

he added this conversion kit that really is just mixed pag oil with an additttive and r134a and a conversion fitting.

r12 is a better refrigerant than 134a is if your ysstem was set up for r12 and you can afford it get r 12.

1134a leaks thru regular r12 lines unless they are thouroughly sealed from many years of oil penetration.
if you busto ne though you have to put barrier lines in before refilling with r134a...

BTW wh is it bad to vent the stuff into the lower atmosphere?
we have a whole in the upper atmosphere b/c we need more ozone, but an excess of ozone (ozone pollution) in the lower atmosphere...

wouldn't the r12 eat up some of the low level r 12 eliminating some of the ozone polution, and scare the rest into the upper atmosphere curing the hole? hmm...
