What does it need to work?
Will I still need a boost controller?
Will I still need an airfuel controller?
Is it hard to tune with?
Anything else I should know before buying?

First hand experience would be extremely appreciated.

If you don't know if you will still need an airfuel controller, then you aren't advanced enough with tuning to run an EMS.

Sorry, but that's how it is.

Well your right I didn't pop out of the woom with the know-how of an EMS... but I would like to learn. Any help is appreciated because I know nothing except that it is the best system available.

That's not my point. My point is that you simply cannot learn how to tune on an EMS. It's not a bad system but it is much too difficult and unforgiving for a beginner.

dont' buy a system you don't know how to use...

Hes very right. AEM EMS is also very unreliable IMO. Check out a MAF and a AFC etc.

I have an s-afc and a profec b right now. I am totaly unfamiliar with tuning with anything, be it an ems or an afc. I just thought it would be better to have something more advanced with the advanced engine im having built right now.

Whaaaaaat?

An EMS is way more reliable than a freaking SAFC. End of story.

You're much better off learning how to tune with the stuff you have now.

I believe that the AEM is a good unit. However, it is not for the newcomer. If you have a good understanding of how fuel delivery works (i.e. AFR, timing, load points, etc) then it is good. Basically if you can tune with the s-afc now, you will not have a problem with the AEM.
I have had problems with mine in the past but all of the problems have been fixed or are being fixed now. If you convert your car to MAP, then the system is good as is. If you plan on running a 0-5v MAF, then wait awhile until the bugs are worked out. If you need help just check out their forum. The people there are very helpful.
Also, I believe that the best part of the AEM, that is never discussed, is the data logging capabilities of the unit. It is the best that I have seen on an aftermarket unit. If you log the correct data you can tune very easily. By using Boost Comp you should be up and running well within two or three pulls.
If you decide to get it and you are having trouble just PM or email me and I will try to help.

I was right where boosted is right now a year or so ago and until I really realized how in depth the ems I knew I couldn't handle it. Learning to tune is one thing but you must learn everything glitch and bi*** about the ems to benefit from it.

Or you could just shell out $750-1000 to have it tuned by a aem pro.
