I have a 1999 spyder Stock and I have picked up a 1995 HT MT
What I had in mind was to swap the MT into the spyder.
How do I tell the 420a from the 3g63 ?
The 1995 is a 2.0 DOHC with A black VC and MT on DS

I am also wondering if maybe I should not part the 95 since it is almost complete .
What would you do in my position?

OMG
First off i think you mean 4g63T not 3G63
One has a turbo one doesn't... but i read in one of your previous posts you don't have a turbo in the spider or something....

SO the easiest way for you to figure it out is the 4G63T's air intake comes from in-between the front bumper and the engine making its way to the passenger side of the car. The 420A's intake comes from in-between the fire wall and the engine making its way to the front of the drivers side.

Hope that helps. Take some time to think everything over, do a lot of research and figure out what your going to do before you decide on a swap. Its not the hardest thing in the world but also not the easiest.

well is the engine on the left or the right of the engine bay? iif the engine looks just like the one in your gst spyder then its a 4g63(not 3g63 LOL). if the engine is on the left of the engine bay, thats a 420a and that transaxle will not work with the 4g63 in your gst spyder.. hope this helps :)

OK so the 95 is a 420a MT NT
And the 99 spyder is 4g64 SOHC AT NT
A friend of mine has a 91 AWD TSI and I have been wanting one ever since I got a ride in it.
My wife actually bought the spyder for me without my getting to check it out and it has some transmission problems.
So the first thing I did was to change the fluid and filter. This seemed to actually make things worse.I used castrol multi import fluid and added Lucas without any improvement.
The trouble started the first time I pushed the overdrive switch, the tranny almost immediately dropped out of drive and downshifted hard which spooked the hell out of me!
Now it will not hold drive for long but wants to stay in 2nd.I quit driving it and started looking for a donor to swap it for a stick.
I bought the 95 for $250 after seeing it in somebody's yard thinking to use it.
The 95 has a miss and the previous owner started to tear it down and gave up so its basically restore-able in its own right
The body is rust free straight and the interior is good too. I was hoping it was a 4g63
As I understand it the blocks are the same as the 4g64?

Mitsubishi transmissions are only suppose to have the transmission fluid from the dealer anything else will cause problems.I would drain the fluid out of it and get the right fluid.I believe it takes the diamond sp 3 fluid.I would look in to making it a 5 speed though.

Incorrect and more proof why people shouldn't post things they don't know about. Of course, unless you are saying Shep is clueless when he recommends Red Line products?

I believe NT dsms use paper carbon composite synchros. It is a smart idea to only use manufacturer recommended products on all transmissions but from my limited research it seems most other fluids break down the paper in the synchros.

Just a bit of information that may or may not be useful.

Yeah that is what i was saying is to use manufatuer recommended transmission fluid and oem fluid.

I was not aware that an AT had any synchros.

Here is an article I found that out lines the swap but it only says up to 98 and I am wondering if mine will work out?
94-98 Mitsu Galant Tranny Swap

Yeah galants are similar so if you follow that you should be alright. The 1999 body style is different so the 7g style is what you need to follow. The only thing i am not to sure about is if the eclipses have the pre drilled spots for the master cylinder like the galants do.

I have decided to try and fix the auto.
I think the TC is bad, does anyone know if the TC solenoid going bad would act the same as a bad TC?
Car is sluggish to move even in reverse.
I am going to put the 95 back together and see how it runs.

Manual to auto or auto to manual swaps are such a pita. Fix both, sell both, get manual and turbo. OR put a 4g63t head on that n/t spyder bottom end with some forged pistons, and get that tranny beefed up while being rebuilt.
