Ok, the story is a pretty sad one, but... i was racing my car and somehow or another all the coolant drained out of the engine... the overheat meter didn't budge so I was driving it as tho there were no problems, then suddenly, the meter jumped all the way to the top and the car died instantly.

Its more than likely that the head is warped after all of this, and I've had so much trouble with this motor already that I'm aiming at getting a crate motor from Howell to save the trouble (yes I know, its sad to not put in the wrench time and build my own motor, but right now I just don't have the time to do that)

So I'm hoping for some advise from fellow DSM drivers on what would be best to drop in my car. A friend of mine from UTI suggested a 2.2Litre stroker, but I won't be using it as a race-only car, it will also be a daily driver in the summer/spring

The website for Howell Automotive's Crate Motors is:

(I'm very sorry if I'm not allowed to post that link, but I checked and didn't see anything forbidding it)

Right now I'm looking at #1 for my purchase, the Crate Motor Long Block 2.0 Litre 420A with Core
I was thinking 8.6 compression pistons, more boost, less power, but I hear its more reliable? Am I wrong in going with this? I'm not sure of the exact limitations of the 420A block, should I go higher or keep it safe?

Also, on the site it lists different numbers for the Camshaft (431-0010, 431-0012, 431-0014, 431-0016, 431-0018) I'm not entirely sure on the difference or which I should pick, any advice is greatly appreciated.

My car is a 1998 Eclipse RS that was, and will be again running boost. I eventually aspire to have it boosting at around 18-22psi, but I know that will take a lot more building, I'm sorry if the information I provided isn't enough to really get help, if more info is needed please ask, this is my first engine swap/build ever so I'm trying to be cautious and not make any costly mistakes.

Thanks in advance for any help I can get

If you want to boost it again, and its your daily, I'd stick with the 2.0L crate motor, with the 8:6 compresssion that you've already selected. If your doing the head too, then some crower (if you got the cash) or crane stage 2 turbo grind cams would be an excellent addition.

Expect to wait 4-5months for that motor from howell, So you might consider, having a local machine shop put together a motor for you, usuing relatively the same parts as in the crate motor.

Read this fresh thread, it will give you enough basic information to help you decide whether you want a stroker or not.

You are fine. Off-site linking is ok as long as you don't link to material that goes against the spirit of this site.

See this short discussion on choosing a CR. If I were building a motor with intentions of feeding it big boost, I would go with a lower than stock CR.

Also, on the site it lists different numbers for the Camshaft (431-0010, 431-0012, 431-0014, 431-0016, 431-0018) I'm not entirely sure on the difference or which I should pick, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Those are Crane Cam's part numbers. The Crane 0010's are tame, and the 0012 is a bit happier, marketed for Nitrous applications. Crane 0014 is their turbo grind, and 0016 and 0018 are their popular lumpy NA cams. The Crane 0014's are a 246/238 combo with 0.364" lift on the intake, and 0.325" on the exhaust.

Go with the 421-0014's if you will be boosting this motor.

You will need something beyond a FMU/S-FMU for those boost levels. Consider the Hahn Portfueler, 034efi, or MegaSquirt.
