This will weld back up right?

This is after >40,000 miles on an act 2100 that was DD on a fairly stock car. Only thing on the car was a 3" exhaust and I never drove the car hard, launched or raced! Any one else see this before?

No u cant "weld" it, and even if u did it will be out of balance and will shake obnoxiously depending on how it was welded but i wouldnt even attempt it anyway.

Mine Punched holes in tranny, it was a 2600. The kid I bought the car from said it was the tranny.

This was a pretty common thing on a run of these pressure plates sometime back. I had a 2100 that broke off 3 fingers with under 10k miles on the clutch. Also, on a stock car.. Luckily it didn't do any damage to the transmission. After some fighting with ACT, got them to warranty it (since it had such low miles). I think the newer ones are ok, though. However, I've since switched out to an Exedy clutch.

had two 2600's do this to me. one after the other. i ended up going with an exedy. i def liked the feel of the act, but was sick of paying 500 bucks for a new one.

Yet this is one of the most commonly recommended clutches by members...

Although I am curious as to what TOB people use with these clutches when they break. And if the clutch is properly adjusted after install. Not to say people are not installing them right, just curios to see if a correlation exists. Either way this is an ever growing issue that I think ACT needs to openly address.

Companies never address an issue, let alone openly, until its too late...AKA when their being sued. They rather try to get away with it to avoid out of pocket expenses then to make sure their customers are safe. Sadly.

ACT has been around a long time, and their success stories greatly outweigh the failures. While I think it would be really hard to pinpoint a specific problem that causes these failures, my bet is that it's combination of things...most likely incorrect clutch adjustment, flywheel step height, or just plain abuse.

Any company that follows that ^ won't last long. Most products are constantly being tested and evolving, even if the manufacturer doesn't feel obligated to keep Joe Public updated on every little detail.

FWIW - I just replaced my ACT 2600 this weekend with a Southbend XX-S and TMZ disk, because it started slipping pretty bad with stickier tires and more boost. Although the springs were loose and showed signs of minor contact with the PP fingers after 5 years of hammering on it, nothing was broken and it was still working fine when I pulled it, other than the disk slipping.

But... I do like the feel of the SB a lot better ;)
