The pressure in my a/c system is down to about 3-4 psi of its original 21 year old charge. As far as I can tell, it's been like this for about 8-9 years now. With 3-4 psi still in the system, is there ANY chance that moisture has gotten into the system over the years? By my logic, I'm pretty sure no air or moisture has gotten in because there is still a small amount of pressure remaining the lines. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Basically, I'm trying to determine whether or not I need to go through the trouble of first reclaiming the r-12 then vacuuming the system to remove any air or moisture before recharging the a/c to full capacity.

Thanks for any and all help.

As long as you have some pressure still in the system it obviously does not have any major leaks which would be a culprit for moisture entering the system. I would just recharge it and go with it!

Ya, that's what I did. I bought a Freeze12 recharge kit from an ebay seller and after deep evacuating the sytem with a vacuum pump for about an hour, I installed it today. I have to say that I am totally surprised and blown away by its performance. It was 85 degrees out today and my vent temps were 50 degrees. That's a 35 degree reduction!
