Ok.. so I haven't had ac since I bought my car, just got it charged, but it doesn't blow cold air, I don't have the fan for the ac yet, the mechanic said It should blow cold when I get it installed, but I was told It should work even without the fan??? is that true, and if yes what could be the cause of my problem? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Does it change temp at all while your driving down the road at highway speeds? Is the compressor even cycling on and of? Pop the hood and have somebody turn the a/c on and off and see if you can hear it clicking on and off. Isolate the problem.

I think it doesn't change the temperature, but then again its pretty hot outside,

I did the diagnostic test of the ac system at some shop, and they told me I should change the ac compressor and heater receiver, but I think they were just trying to rip me off, what they told me is that the compressor was clicking on and off, but that was before my ac was even charged, and Im pretty sure u need to have it charged to know that.

No the A/C cooling fan does not need to work. Look at the A/C compressor clutch on the compressor. If it's engaging when you turn on the A/C then you have pressure. So then you either have air in the system, wrong refrigerent amount, or the shop is right - your receiver/dryer and/or compressor is suspect.

That's why I was saying we need to know if the compressor is kicking on or not. Should be pretty easy to trouble shoot if it's not even turning on.

Have you tried manually engaging the clutch? There should be either a high pressure switch on the reciever/drier or a plug on the same harness with 2 prongs. Try inserting a paper clip into it. This should kick on the compressor. If the mechanic didnt do this when he charged the system then the compressor isnt kicking on because the system hasnt equalized. If the compressor isnt running while charging the system the expansion valve wont allow the high side / low side to equalize and all the pressure will stay on the low side until the compressor is activated.

PS remember the compressor wont come on if the charge is too low. This is where you have to override the safety/high pressure switch using a jumper or paperclip
