ABS Has Got to GO

I got a 92 talon tsi w/abs. I personally think abs is cool and all but this car is getting older and I just dont know about the reliability of these units. Has anyone removed the abs and replaced it with standard setup? I got a donor car at the junkyard with all stock brakes and I was going to go steal the lines and the master cylinder. Haven't heard much about it. Has anyone had any problems with their abs?

No problems with it here, except that it's always in the goddamn way... it works fine though.

if u wanna remove the abs..just remove the abs Relay....Simple..isnt it...? that way,the unit wont activate..u then can also remove the ABS warning light in the guage cluster too(it will stay on to show that ABS is inactive)

u dont have to switch anything over from a non ABS car

oh..and..in the wet weather here,ABS helps... specially on the Autobahn.

to keep ur ABS in shape..use it once in a while..and itll be fine


i would never remove ABS from a car tho...


u could wire a switch in before the Relay so that u can switch the System off (for track use for example..)

I've gone over this a bunch of times -

Reasons to remove ABS -

• Makes it MUCH easier to replace Lug Studs using Non-ABS hubs
• Always in the %@!ing way when trying to work under the hood, especially on the Transmission Mount And UICP recirc/BOV hose
• A pocketlogger disables the ABS anyhow

So there's plenty of good reasons there... but I haven't done it, and most likely won't, because -

• higher resale value for a car with ABS
• ABS is invaluable in the rain, ice, or snow - bent up a rim during the snow after having my ABS disabled due to Pocketlogger...
• You can rewire the ABS switch so it works even with a logger
• It's just smart to keep the safety features!

These are my own feelings on the subject, so take that however you'd like. I've just had this argument with myself a lot over the last few months, so I figured I'd contribute what I'd come up with..

Ok i have a 2G and my ABS light has been on since i got the car so i took the bulb out. Looking at my fuse box i should have a fuse for it but the fuse is gona and no connections to put a fuse are in there. I don't care that i don't have the ABS, my brakes work awesome without ABS. I just want to know why i don't have that other fuse under the hood! it kinda is pissing me off now that i think about it.

Well, I removed my abs for 2 reasons:
1) more room under hood(and uicp)
2) less weight. Not much but every little ounce counts.

Now, My pedal pressure is firm and steady and my braking is much better. I had the bigger front brake upgrade before removing abs and removing abs made more of a diference than the upgrade.

Remove the abs pump, front break lines,and anything else that will no longer be needed. You have to replace the break proportion valve (thats bolted on the firewall) with a non abs one. Run new lines up front from the the valve and thats about it.
I did it when I had my engine out so your level of p.i.t.a will vary.
