One other question, sorry if it's off topic, but is it true once you've served 20 years you can retire? So say you started at 20, when you're 40 you can start recieving a pension(?) and then start another career in the military for another 20 years and by the time you're 60 you'll be recieving 2 pensions?

Just curious how life is in the military compared to civilian life. I'm about to have 2 kids (second on the way) and I want to see if it would be better for me to sway them in the direction of a military life or work 2 jobs like I did getting through college...when they get to that age of course.

Thanks for the info and congrats on the new job and making it through the military.

Ehh no you can't serve for another 20 years after the initial 20. In the Air Force, depending on what rank you are you can be in for as much as 30 years. Most retire at 20 though. I believe you must be a Senior NCO (E-7 through E-9) to serve more than 20..? Not sure though..

http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/generalpay/a/retirementpay.htm read up! :thumb: Also look around that usmilitary.about.com site..has lots of good info about the military.

Nice pay for your JOB I hope I get something like that when I get out of the Air Force but when I finish my 20 years

I don't know what your point is.... but heres how my numbers come out according to this months LES

Base Pay: $2048.75/ mo x 12 = $24,585/yr
BAH (DC): $1657.00/mo x 12 = 19,884/yr
BAS: $279.88/mo x 12 = $3,358.56/yr

Total annual Entitlements: 47,827.56/yr

Now take out taxes, which is rediculous... Yeah, San Fran is the highest for BAH, and another crazy one is Bahrain, Per Diem there is another rediculous thing.

My pay is 23,230/yr as a army specialist. But I also get 20,000/yr for housing. $4000/yr for food rations and the benefits are UNBEATABLE!!!

That also was your other post on this thread. Dude, I am not trying to start anything again, but look at this, these don't match, and you are a Specialist, you even edited your post earlier today at 3:58pm... and the date is 070405

I am not adding fuel to the fire, just pointing out the numbers that don't match....

Thats what I wanted to do. I was stupid enough to believe my recruiter and got stuck with a garbage job that pretty much does me no good at all in the civilian world unless I want to work at an airport. Which I do not want to do.

So now I have to start all over again with school and work some shitty ass job while Im in school. That or stay in and crosstrain. But comm jobs have been overmanned for some time now and Im 90% sure I wont be able to crosstrain into what I want.

Yay for me!

Like I said, you're smarter then I gave you credit for.;)

..Based on the other thread, I think somebody has anger problems...:|

Relax, I got this. We actually had a nice debate in PM.

So what about all that BS you talked about earlier? Hmm, it makes me think now who was lieing... Oh well... :boring: I am moving on now... :notgood:

:dsm: :talon: :laser:

Read back over the PMs. Never did I say, I was an officer. I implied, but did not lie.

Mislead, of course. I was trying to get you thinking, that you did. I weave an intricate web of misconseptions. I made the mistake of misjudging your intellegence, that is why I conceaded. I actually respect you more for that.

I obviously wasn't thinking of the future when I enlisted as a 13F. I learned how to read a map, and crap in a hole. The setup for success right there.

Oh yes you did, Article 89, yeah, that is what you so called implied, and then you called yourself and officer by saying that. You don't have to get me to think at all, who do you think you are? I know what I said and meant it and yeah, like I said, you were the one that started it, and I am not about to start another one here... Just drop it, and walk away... I still have all the PM's saved, as well as your original posts printed off here on my printer...

Eh..didn't he say he's out of the military now? The UCMJ wouldn't apply to him anymore, so why print your conversations out like you're saving them for evidence? & just curious, what rank are you?

I don't disclose that info online... And yeah, he said he was an officer, by implying Article 89, and he isn't out yet he said... I am not getting into it anymore...

Congrats on getting out and getting a decent paying job.. and in IT. Wow! I hate IT. I think I'd rather get the job over with first and then go to the military for life. ROFL I hate my job by the way. Did I mention that?
Anyway, congrats again and good luck.

I asked you "How does an Artcile 89 sound to you?" I never said I was an officer. I have all my PMs saved, too. Not because I am out to get you, I'm just too lazy to delete them.

You don't have to get me to think at all, who do you think you are?
Oooooh I dunno, a pot stirrer maybe. :p

I know what I said and meant it and yeah, like I said, you were the one that started it, and I am not about to start another one here... Just drop it, and walk away...
Like I said before I concead, you outsmarted me. I lost this battle of wits.

I still have all the PM's saved, as well as your original posts printed off here on my printer...
Good job, would you like a cookie.?:)

And BTW, I am out. I work as a government contractor with BAE Systems in Reston, VA. I have moved out and am no longer affiliated with the military in anyway. I'm curious, what do you do in the Marines anyway.

Yeah, that is what it means, you implied you were an officer bro... come on, don't play that with me... Article 89= Disrespect towards a commissioned officer, and that is what you said you are. No, would you like a cookie on getting out? No, let's just stop right there... That is good for you, now you are a contractor with DOD. I am a 06xx, you figure out the details from there.

You figure it out. My Mos is based on the first 2 numbers, then my actual job is based on the last 2. Google it then....

http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjo2/a/06.htm

Command & Control Systems. So you're Com....

And? I don't get what the big mystery is. The way you're saying to figure it out makes it sound like 06xx was a commander or something.

So while we're on the subject..I'm a 3E1X1...thinking about crosstraining into the 1N field though....Not that anybody cares. :D
