A few engine modding ?'s

I wanna keep my bottom end stock for now, but would like to do some work to my head to help increase performance and response. Besides some porting, I was wondering would changing the valves and valvesprings really make that much difference if I don't intend to make is a full blown drag car right now? I was considering porting, cams and cam gear changes, and alot of dyno tuning? Would this be worth investing in? If so, I'd like to know something about cams. I've read by many in posts that the best set up for DSMs is a smaller duration cam for the intake like a 264, and a large one for exhaust like a 272. Would this be the same cam set up for street use or stictly drag? I've read elsewhere for street use a large cam for intake would be better and smaller for exhaust. Exact opposite as what I wrote previously. I just want to make a fun street machine that has better then stock responce and not worried about turbos and such, thats a different issue. right now I'd like to concentrate on engine responce. What do you guys think would be the best route to go without sacrificing much everyday drivability. I'm auto by the way, many of u may say "Boo" but I like.

As for cams.. depending on what you want and what you have mods-wise will be a determinant in what's best for you.

Generally speaking.. the 264/264s will give you near stock response and more power across the board (good for stock - 16G). 272/272s will give you better high rpm power at the expense of low RPM (med-large turbos). 264/272 is a happy medium for stock-mid-sized turbos.
