im driving a 97 eclipse gst

ok 1st off, i went to change my belts, and autozone gives me a 27.5" belt for my ps belt, and with my ps back as far as it will go still has alotta play in the belt... the belt that is on the car is 25" so could my pulley be wrong??

ok and secondly i have a turbo timmer and normally have it set to show me the amps my bat is at, i have a new alt and new battery, and yet when im at an idle and turn my heater to defrost, and it kicks the a/c on something starts squeeling, and when i first start the car is squeel for about 15 sec... any ideas??

1st: Don't you think you need the same size belt that was initially on the car? Common sense should of saved you typing out that question.

2nd: That noise is because you have some play going on. Whether it be the belt is loose, bolts on the pulley are not torqued to spec, or you have a water pump that will be failing soon. My car made the same sound and only got worse until I changed the water pump.

well see heres the prob with the belt thats on the car, whoever owned the car prior to me didnt put an orignal sized belt on, no one autozone advanced auto napa can get a 25" belt and with that belt i have to pull the water pump pulley off to get it off, no play in the tensioner on the ps.

if the belt for the a/c is bad would it cause it to squeel also?? because i just orderd a belt for it, but whoever owned this car prior was an idiot, he put a 3 rivet belt instead of the 4 rivet belt....

The alternator feeds power. Anything that needs power will cause the squeal to be longer. Try it and see. Lights, radio, heat, a/c, turning...

well the alt was a "remanuf" one, do you think that might be a problem...? thanks for all the advice!

Re-manufactured is the same as "re-used". Honestly, I went threw 3 autozone alternator before I found a good one. That right there could be your problem. If I had the chance to do it again, I would just get a Mitsubishi one or get that Saturn one with high amp output.

The rebuilt / reman stuff is crap. You'd be better off getting a good used one at a junk yard. As for the belt, I think you can get sizes in like 1/8 or 1/4 inch increments; if the one you have is too loose, just get a shorter one. Remember that a small change inch-wise is actually a pretty large change when trying to actually install the belt.

ok well, im gonna pull the alt off tonight and go get another crappy one, until i can afford to buy a nice one, last night while i was driving home from work, my turbo timer was set to the batter, and my amps at the battery jumped up to 20.0 a few times, now before my when my alt went bad, my amps jumped to 15.9 and stayed there.... so im assuming thats the problem again

As for the belt, i cant seem to find one anywhere, everyone either has a 24" or less and then it jumps to 27.5" they cant get one inbetween.. any ideas with that?

hmmm question, i had my alt check said it was fine, everytime i turn my lights on my volts drop, everytime i turn my blinker they drop a couple and jump back and forth, i just put a memphis c3 15" sub with a 1000 watt memphis pr amp, everytime the base hits the volts drop for 14.1 to 12.2, understandable that its using alotta of juice to run the amp, however it shouldnt drop that far.... is it possible my alt is just not pushing enough amps?

Just because your alternator checked out doesnt mean it isnt weak. Also why would you put a 1000watt amp in without puting at least a 1farad capacitor on it???? I believe the stock mitsu alternator is only a 65 amp. At this type of load that stock alt will fry itself trying to produce enough power to supply all your acc. The squealling sound you hear is an extra heavy load on the alternator, that is causing it to become much harder to turn, thus causing the belt to slip over the pulley and squeal. Any time you put more draw on a an alternator than it is designed for (audio system) it will shorten the life of it. That is why you put in a capacitor when running an amp. A cap stores up extra power so that when your bass hits it draws the extra power from the cap and keeps a normal draw on your electrical system (no dimming lights) You should also be running a very good battery with an audio system. I run a redtop optima and have 2farads worth of capacitors on my sound system. I did custom audio and video for years.
