A/C problems, need help.....

i jus picked up a stock 97 gst and the guy i got it from said it jus needs a new a/c belt. then i put on a new belt...not even on super tight. i turn my car on and it starts squealing then SNAP...the ac belt breaks.....### could be the problem??? i took a look and it looks like the ac tensioner is not lined up with the ac pump......is this normal for these DSM's? never had that issue with a honda......

check your harmonic balancer if its still in one piece

Check the idler pulley too...sometimes the bearing can lock up and do that. That's what happened to me, the bearing seized up and snapped the belt, then locked up the a/c clutch. Had to get a new compressor.

im new to these dsm motors, can u post up a pix of the harmonic balancer and the idler pulley please......i dont have a haynes yet either.

The harmonic balancer is the pulley that can be called the crank pulley, its basically the same thing and I don't know how to describe the location of the idler pulley.

This should help you identify the pullies. All the pullies need to line up. If not, something is wrong and the belt will snap.

thanx for the help...it looks like my ac tensioner pulley is not lined up with the ac pulley...### as it sits right now, it looks to be rubbing the plastic timing cover and looks crooked.....does any1 know how much that pulley cost???(the ac tensioner pulley)
