I have a 99 GS eclipse with a 420a engine in it. This car was driven to my house and dropped off by the previous owner. I then left it there for like 6 months since i was doing other projects, and when I came back to it it will idle but really do nothing else. It idles like a champ, hanging in there around 800rpm. However if you give it any gas at all it sputters like crazy and then shuts off. The only way i can move it around my yard is by very carefully letting the clutch out really slowly so that it starts to roll but never goes above idle.

Any ideas for me on where to start?

My gratitude and thanks ahead of time!
David

check for a weak spark.
420a Ignition.pdf

if your getting a good spark on all cylinders,
check your Fuel Pressure (47-50 psi),
if your FP is good at idle, see if the pressure drops when you open the throttle.
if it does, try changing your fuel filter.

if your FP is all good, it could be a clogged injector

After 6 months plus that fuel is not going to be very good either. These things were not designed to run corn supplemented fuels that EPA requires these days so I could certainly see clogged injectors on the list with fresh fuel.
