I have info in the blog area.
This is the link

I now have an imported Sedan that has been partially prepped for Rally. There was a substantial cage but I need to add a couple of extra braces to get a log book for 2012 racing.

Wonderful, your sanctioning body use FIA spec for cage or?

G'day.
Yes FIA Specs.
CAMS Online Manual of Motor Sport
See here. Schedule 'J'
For 2012 I need to gusset door bars and add one diagonal on the rear brace and in the main hoop. :hmm:

Ah, cool..

I don't have A-Pillar reinforcements, but NASA here in USA should allow it under grandfathering rules. (And if I add A-Pillar reinforcement, my main-hoop will have to be changed.)

Do you have a blog elsewhere or just here?

You rally drivers have my favorite threads to read.
If i have to see a Gvr4 go to the can factory, this is probably the best way.

Cheers from a US Gvr4 owner!

G'day.
Bit like a duck on a lake, not much happening on the surface but very busy under the water.
I have enough change to warrant some pictures.
More to come when I get it done.

Your cage design is a little odd, is it something you designed that way for a particular reason?

Mainly talking about the lack of main hoop down/cross bar and the traingulation with the floor in the center and strut towers.

G'day.

The cage was done in 2003 by a bloke in Gladstone who has built cages for quite a while.
He has a good rep.
2012 Regs say I have to add a 'Sainz Bar' that runs straight down from the top pf the 'A' pillar to the front foot of the cage.
Awaiting the opinion of the cage builder to see if he considers the changes help or hinder his design.
Cheers

Turned the engine over tonight with no plugs and we have oil pressure. :thumb:
Thought about giving Horie a tickle up but no fuel :ohdamn: and so I am off to bed as the FA cup is on tonight, so I will watch that..I sat in the drivers seat while I waited for oil pressure...Not quite wood...but a noice feeling it was...yes.
Will post more pics and video of the startup tomorrow or Monday..;)

Hi Ross. car lookes great. i really like what you have done here.

The extra brace is also called "Toyota-brace".

FIA regulations also say that you don´t need it to be all the way up to the top.
as long as it sits atleast 10(or 12)cm away from the steeingwheels.

My brace as example:

I know there is a small hiatus in the timeline for the build. I was very busy getting VR4 ready to Rally in this event.
Finished 1st on Class and 9th Outright Qld Rally Championship in Sat heat, and 10th Outright, 2nd in Class in the Sun heat.
The only shakedown was drive 8klms to VIP ride day, 7 laps of 1.3klm circuit.
Then raced all day Sat and all day Sun. Finished both days, very happy...

Again my apologies for no info between events...
Short stage at Gallangowan in a 1989 Jspec VR4 Rally car. :D
First time with a hired GoPro, needs some fine tuning. :thumb:
Have no more video of the event though.
Enjoy

Hey Ross,

Avg speed on that stage?
Avg speed overall for the rally?
Avg speed for top runners?

No head/neck restraint?

G'day.
I would guess about 120kph, about the same for the whole rally.
The other stages were fast in spots but slower and tight in some spots.
We had a short bitumen stage that was tight and twisty so that would have dropped the average.
Some of the top runners were 220kph top speed on the open roads but their average could have been higher due to quicker acceleration in the tight stuff.
I haven't asked anyone directly and didn't check my Brantz before I turned it off.
The relevant info was lost then.
Head and neck restraint are optional at the present time but are filtering in.
National level competitors they are mandatory, but State and under along with Classics they are at present optional but recommended.
Cheers
Ross :)

Inside the car, first event for 2013, finally. Smiling faces was from being mooned..
It had been an interesting 2013, engine rebuild twice as I put bearing shells in the wrong half of the crank.
But all finished now 175.4 kw at the wheels 325nm torque. Suspension upgrade by MCA suspension in Landsborough, Queensland, Australia.
Cheers

Last stage at Border Ranges Rally 2014, small excursion at about 6.00 cost us 5-6th place outright and 2nd in Class. Lost 3 minutes time and dropped to second last. My fault entirely. :banghead:
