98 ecu into 95 car

I thought so. Then it is possible to swap plug wires and injectors. I don't need to swap 97/99 or pre 95 CAS as some people suggest?!

what seems to be the problem is that some people are having issues with doing that, their cars are not running correctly after switching the injectors and plug wires, and others (like me) don't seem to have a problem.

The only problem is the injector swap order, because there is no documented way and we are trying it in the dark. RRE scheme seems to be wrong, the firing order that is listed on swapplugwires page seems to be wrong, and so we can only do a blind swap.

And I cannot figure out why the swap happens as it happens. Because it seems that the CAS swap changes these things the following way which doesn't make sense with coil swaps:

Code:
                 1
             *       *
            *         *
            4         2
            *         *
             *       *
                 3

to

                 1
             *       *
            *         *
            2         4
            *         *
             *       *
                 3

or

                 3
             *       *
            *         *
            4         2
            *         *
             *       *
                 1

That would mean only 2 spark wires should be swapped, and only 2 injector wires, but all documents online suggest that 4 should be swapped.

Basically with the 95/96 cas being on the belt side of the motor vs the 97+ ( and 6 bolt ) being on the tranny side of the head. The signal is a mirrior image.

So when 1 and 4 fire with the 95 cas/ecu it should be 2 and 3 with the 95cas/98ecu instead. so you will ahve to swap say for example plug wires from 1 to 2 and from 3 to 4. The same would be true for the injectors.

Or you can do as I was sugesting and I have done and just swap the 4 pins around on the ECU ( exactly the same thing only you are swaping ECU wire for 1 and 2 and 3 for 4 instead of messing with the plug wires and injector wiring.)

I played around with it some before I decided to go that route. I started the car without changing anything and it missed and ran like crap.

Since the car I was putting the motor in was for a person that had little to no car knowledge I decided to make the swap on the ECU incase she ever had to take it somewhere to get work done they would not put the plug wires on in the wrong ( stock) order. Also I'm not a huge fan of cutting into the wire harness to swap injector order.

For the injectors, you just swap 1&2, and 3&4, the ones right next to each other. On mine, the wires were long enough to just plug them in to the other injectors; no pulling apart wires was necessary. I did this to run a 95 ECU in my 98 (as well as the same swap for the spark plug wires), and it worked perfect. If you don't swap the injectors, it will seem bogged down when cruising, requiring more throttle to keep your speed, and it won't idle quite right.

i think maby they missed one, try this

Code:
                 3
             *       *
            *         *
            2         4
            *         *
             *       *
                 1

Doesn't make sense, because one sensor is under timing belt cover and covers 2 opposite points, and the other is down at the crankshaft, which covers 2 points as well. The difference between them is 90 degrees.

Graphically sensors look as follows:
Code:
                 1
             *       *
            *         *
            *         *
            *         *
             *       *
                 3

and the second one is

                 *
             *       *
            *         *
            4         2
            *         *
             *       *
                 *

Only one of them is inverted, the one under timing belt cover. Isn't that so?

Was this ever resolved???

Had a look at some of the CAS code in the 98/99 ecu.

There is counter, people call CylinderIndex.
CylinderIndex tells the ecu which cylinder is near TDC.

Every time there is a CAS pulse, CylinderIndex is incremented by 1.
When there is a Crank Trigger, CylinderIndex is reset to zero.

So it goes:
CylinderIndex=0
CAS Pulse
CylinderIndex=1
CAS Pulse
CylinderIndex=2
CAS Pulse
CylinderIndex=3
Crank Trigger
CylinderIndex=0
repeats...

Running a 97-99 ecu with 95-96 Inverted CAS, the Crank Trigger is received at the wrong time and the CylinderIndex is messed up, so fuel and spark is sent at the wrong time. That is the most likely cause why you get weird vibrations and knock.

If anyone is attempting to run a 98/99 flashable ecu in a 95 or 96 car, I have a possible fix that needs testing. Contact me if you would like to help test it out.
