my auto trans overdrive is out and i found a good used trans out of a 97 gsx. are they the same trans?? anything i need to look for or know before i get the trans?? do i need just the trans or do i need torque converter ect??

I'd be willing to bet that they are the same tranny, and if it's just the transmission for sure on yours thats messed up, then just get the tranny out of the 97' gsx and slap everything that you didnt get off of the gsx onto it from your broke tranny.... :talon:

95-96 tranny goes with a 95-96 transfer case. 97+ tranny requires a 97+ transfer case.

What he said :thumb:
same with a manual trans as well.. :dsm: :talon:

are you guys sure the 95 transfer case wont wiork with the 98 trans
Yes im sure that it will not work. It might physicly fit, but it wont work and will mess up your tranny. If you got the tranny for a really cheap price than just try to find a matching x case from a 97-99.

ok well the guy that sold me the trans is going to give me the transfer case and al i have to do is pay shipping. SO IS THAT ALL I WILL NEED IS TO SWAP THE 95 TRANS AND TRANSFER CASE WITH THE 98 TRANS AND TRANSFER CASE AND IT WILL WORK???

Hang on a sec I was told also your pumpkin has to match as well this maybe snake oil but you might want to call up IPT or something to double check. They have different ratio's from and auto to a manual I know that much.

yeah the rear diff's have to match, i forgot about thouse, I think all the MT diffs have the same ratio threw the years, not sure, but you will need an MT rear diff.

I agree call IPT and then make sure to post back and let us know what they say.

If all it is is your Overdrive, just replace the end clutches!

It's basically just taking off the pass. side wheel & the trans front cover, replace the end clutches, and you're good to go.
