96 Eclipse RS FWD Swap

96 Eclipse RS AWD Swap? I am wondering if this is possible. I had a friend tell me that the GST and GSX chassis' are longer which will fit the AWD platform and the RS is not. Im wondering what my options are and whether it is even worth putting money into a FWD 2G. Atleast my car is a 5 Speed but still im wondering what my options are. Let me know thanks...

NO you cannot do an AWD Swap on a RS(420a) engine. the engines are totally different to begin with.
It sure can be done with $$$$$$$$$$$$.

Keep your Rs as a DD. and get a GSX if you want AWD so bad.
If you had a GS-t, A swap wouldn't be that hard or expensive.

Haha alright thanks for the tips. Sorry i am still learning about all this. Well if i swapped the 420a (My engine) to the 4G63 is it possible?? Everyone knows FWD is limited and AWD has more potential. I live in Atlanta and finding an AWD Talon or Eclipse is next to impossible

It is possible. But involves a lot of modification and welding. again $$$$$$$$$$.

Actually a FWD 4G63 can be faster than an AWD if is done right.
AWD means better launch,but is heavier.

That is not possibly without many hours of fabrication. The frame rails and inner fenders are different between the 2 cars.

Well im starting to understand. So basically its not going to be easy to drop a GST motor in an RS engine bay. I figured it would be the same size?? Where is the issue?

I could just put my own turbo into mine and make my own boosted engine??

The cars are the same size, but the inner frame rails and strut towers are different between the 2 cars. To swap the engines you will have to cut the frame rails and strut towers from a turbo car and weld them into your car. Imagine removing the fenders and bumper than cutting everything from the firewall forward and welding in the whole front part on to your car.

You can turbo the 420A but the amount that you spend to rebuild the engine properly could be used to find a 4G model. Most 420a's have alot of mileage and the lower end will take a beating. If you go turbo, I suggest doing more research and build a cost list.

Some people do the turbo upgrade without a rebuild and get away with it for quite awhile, that's not the case always. Better pistons, rings, connecting rods, bearings and fuel management are recommended. Last thing you would want is to spend gobs of $$$ on the turbo components, bolt it on, (tune it) start it up, do a launch and blow out your lower end. Then you're right back at square 1.

Yeah i see what your saying. As far as internals i need to learn how that all works. Im going to start with simple bolt ons like headers, downpipes, etc. I hope it will not cost more than a couple thousand dollars for a nice setup.

An AWD swap is possible but it will cost alot of money. If you got the money, there is a growing number of people who want to see this done. And getting to where, how, and how much would help us all out alot. The only way to find out how you can really go about getting a RS to have AWD capablities, is to do some ground work in your local area. Machine shops, transmission shops, somewhere you can get overhauls done, unless you have the equipment and the time yourself.

Yeah it sounds like much customer work indeed. An RS might not be to bad. I only really looking for about 250hp right now but anything over 300 with FWD is probably not a good idea even with an lsd. I would still like to be able to turn. The best route is probably to build my RS as a daily driver/autocross. If i want to drag someone i can just save for another GSX. There really isnt a perfect harmony because GSX's are much heavier and turning with a lot of power will probably be difficult

Getting an SRT4 Motor on this island is easier than getting a 420a. Kids are crashing SRT4's left and right every other week. and then parting out the cars, or selling the whole wrecked thing for less than 2k. You better finish or your going to get 150,000,000 lashes from the 420a base of users on this site and 2GNT.

GSX's are cool. AWD's are cool drag races are cool.

Tank I said the WHOLE CAR is for 2k, you could problably score a whole motor for around what you got yours. I buy EK and EG civics for 400 or less for parts, strip em and sell the parts resulting in 900 or so profits.

Whats crazy is... on oahu if a 2g goes up for sale it gets bought right away by the same group of people upwards on the otherwise of the island. They are like mad scientists when it comes to DSM. I know for a fact they have at least 9, 3 are running. Why? Who knows, but I know this they just released 2 420a's for sale on craigslist for around 2500. And these are shi* turbo builds

You may want to also take a look at their cross drilled brake lines. With the AWD, it will put A LOT of tension on your brakes. You'll want to cool that fluid down for the best braking

Wow, I recently put this on my 951 and all I can say is the launch was incredible!
An old woman in her walker revved at me and I ran her over with NO problem, it was insane in the membrane.
The pressure in my chest felt like a 50 ton fat beesh sitting on my chest, so I told her to get off!

Pretty sweet deal here. Can you put a price on aids? I sure can't. I had relations with this nasty skank down in Tijajuana one night after a tequila binge. Nearly a month later I found out I had full blown aids from. I put a reverse mortgage on my house and used the equity to buy this flux capacitor. Hooked that baby up to my 1982 Geo Tracker and I was set. Only problem----it wouldn't go 85 miles an hour. I hooked it to the back of a friends car and he pulled me up to speed and BAM....back in time before I had AIDS. Only bad thing is....my flux capacitor broke when my tracker stalled in an intersection and was t-boned by a tractor trailer. So long story short....I cam back to th point in my life where we were headed down to Tijajuana for a weekend of fun in the sun. Two bottles of tequila and an aching body from all the fun I had the night before...I woke up with the sun shining in my eyes. And to my surprise....that skanky AIDS infested hooker was right next to me. :-/
