I'm looking at buying a 95 GSX with a 6 bolt swap, but the 2nd gear synchros are bad. I've been looking into the costs of purchasing a new transmission but have been getting some mixed reviews of which transmission to use. I hear that the 2g AWD M/T can hold up better than the 1G, so I ruled that out. But now, without actually knowing which 2G tranny is in the car (owner doesn't know either) should I be searching for a 21, 22, or 23 spline?

Seems like the higher number spline, the higher the cost... The car is currently running a 16G @ 12lbs with a K&N filter & full 3.5" exhaust. I don't plan on modifying it beyond that when it comes to the engine. The only modifications I would do are suspension related. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've searched as much as I could and people explain the differences, but not which one to use...

Personally i would just rebuild the current trans and install a new clutch/pressure plate and be done with it

You'll need a 2g trans so all of them had the same amount of splines on the output shaft. I'd find out what year the trans is from. 97-99 transmissions need to be paired with a 97-99 transfer case so keep that in mind. Look up the part number on the housing of the trans to find out what year it's from.

I knew the transmissions & transfer cases had to be paired, but I didn't know if it would be better to have a 2G transmission or pick up a 1G 21 spline?

If you go aftermarket i recommend Tim Zimmer from TMZ he does an excellent job but even if you dont check out his clutch and pressure plates they are top of the line for any application

I wasn't looking aftermarket for the transmissions. I was comparing stock transmissions. Gear ratios & overall strength. 1G or 2G? Also, I would be running an ACT HD PP & Street Disc & Fidanza Flywheel. Nothing too crazy. I rather have the clutch take the beating rather than the transmission.
