95 gsx fuel pump rubber gasket alingment

how do you properly alignt the fuel gasket any one have any pics i noticewd that at the bottom of the gasket it looks like it goes over the metal piece idk though quick tip anyone?

No, the bottom part which has a deep groove that looks like it supposed to fit something inside is just to flare the bottom out to provide a wider seal against fumes and such. The larger diameter ring at the top that protrudes from the rest of the gasket is supposed to sit between the metal top of the sending unit and the top of the opening and remain exactly as it is when the plastic ring is tightened down. That is, it shouldn't be folded or deformed when the sending unit goes in. Just place the gasket (by itself with no sending unit) into the opening with the protruding part resting on the outside on top. Then lower the sending unit into the opening without disturbing the gasket. That's it. The weight of the sending unit will pretty much keep everything in place so there's no rush at that point. Then you can screw the big plastic ring on and that's it.
