2G 91 CAS in 2G: Random misfire detection question

Hey all, I am running a 91 CAS with the RRE adapter in my 2g. I am getting the random misfire code and my #1 injector stops firing. I researched that particular issue on here and found that the solution is to disable the random misfire detection, as apparently that is caused by the CAS being less accurate than the ECU expects.

My question with this is if I am losing the advantage of the misfire detection itself by disabling it? Can the car still detect actual misfires if they happen? I just want to make sure that I have as much safety as possible. One thing I did consider was swapping to a 94 cas and hooking my Crank sensor back up.

I guess the biggest question I have is what is the best way to go here? Disable the random misfire detection and roll on with the 91 CAS, or change the setup in some way?
 
You can go with the black top cas which in some setups will cause this issue to not happen as often, run the 10k pot mod, disable misfires on link or go with the 2g cam and crank sensor depending on what block/head combo you are running. If you are running a 7 bolt bottom end than i would run the 2g crank sensor and the 97+ cam sensor.

I have the stock cam sensor that came with the car, the only problem is my stock cams were trashed in my old engine. Is there a way to use the stock sensor on an intake cam without the threaded hole?
 
You can just thread the existing hole that is already in the intake cam that you have. That is the route that i would take instead of trying to use the 1g cas with the 2g crank sensor. Some people have had success doing it that way, but you could end up with the same misfires. I would just thread the cam and use the right cam sensor and eliminate any possibility of future issues.

Ok, I wasnt sure if that was something I could do myself. When I have it down to retorque my head studs and change the oil i'll probably swap it back again.

It is rather simple, you just need to slightly increase the size of the hole with 17/64 bit than run a m8x1.25 tap thru it. Since there is already a hole there it is pretty easy to keep the hole straight if you don't have a drill press to do it.
