Well guys I bought a 1990 TSi AWD, and one of the problems with it is the rear OEM wing is loose, and creates a loud rattle. along with the possibility of it coming off while driving.

I was wondering how you tighten this thing down? I've never really worked to much back there, and I'm unsure how to go about tightening it.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I did this also, when i got my sub it would rattle horribly...I think it is just held on there by thoe little plastic nuts, you should be able to either just pull it off or it might have a couple screws.. i can't really remember, but any way I couldn't figure out how to tighten it. so i took it off for nothing...But if you figure it out post it so I can tighten it up too.

1. Lift the hatch.
2. Remove the plastic panel attached to the interior of the hatch.
3. You should see the heads for the fasteners, unfasten those.
4. The wing should slide off.
5. Look under the wing and you'll see like 4 bars or brackets with plastic inserts on them. If the fasteners were ever overtightened, that could pull the plastic inserts off the brackets or break the inserts. You can either buy new brackets or fix it with epoxy... which is what I did.
6. Reinstall the wing and tighten the fasteners til they are snug (don't want to overtighten). That should take care of the rattling.

Thanks alot, I appreciate the help. I will try that out tomorrow, and let you know how I make out.

Do yourself a favor before you start because all you'll find is some broken plastic Crap - Get plenty of BIG 3/8 Flatwashers & regular Nuts & Lockwashers - If you have some leftover hardware off of a Shock Absorber swap you are GOLDEN - Then get some 3/8 Allthread & a Hacksaw. The Wing slides on at 7 points then kinda clips on at the rear 2 points - Basically you keep the slide on points & delete the stock hardware from the rear 2 main attachment points & replace them with Allthread, Washers, Nuts, & a Shock grommet - You hard bolt the Allthread to the Wing with big Washers clamping over the existing Brackets on the Wing itself - Then I used more Washers, the big rubber Grommet from a Shock & RTV at the hatch to seal it from rain - Bolting all that up with a Deep Well Socket from the inside of the Hatch (CAREFULLY pop off the plastic Inner trim from the lower Hatch) You'll see how to adjust the double nuts & washers on the Allthread to achieve the right height - You can dab RTV on any Threads & Nuts you think might need some soft "loctiting" - Mine now has the factory gap to the Hatch but the rubber shock Grommets isolate the rattling. Yes you shouldn't open the Hatch by the Wing - That's what kills the original POS RINKY-DINK PLASTIC FACTORY CRAP they attached the Wing with - My method holds up well to Subwoofers, etc.... It's worked great for over a year.
