That part is the moniter. I am going to probally build a "mini" computer from shuttle for around 700 or use my laptop and set up a doc so when i get in the car i just plug in my laptop and go :)

One of the tablets may not be a bad idea either although figuring out a mount may prove to be a bit tricky. There are sveral "mini" computers that may fit the bill Im gonna make a decision in the next week or two i hope

Looking to do the same thing with the xenarc screen. I have a link of an Audi S4 who had the same thing done, incorpirated into the dash, looked real clean.

mp3car.com has a bunch of information on their forums about the topic, its really a great idea if you can setup everything right. The only thing that is stopping me is powering the actual computer. There is an opus power supply out that would allow you to use normal power from the battery, but it maxes out at 150w. I plan on using my computer to store movies (divx), dsmlink, play music and gps. You could use an inverter but that just makes things more complicated, adds more wires such as power buttons and adds more noise.

I plan on ripping out the head unit i have now and molding the touch screen into the double din slot where i currently have my head unit and gauges set up.

You could add a small laptop or a tablet but you'll pay a lot more and it'll look a lot worse in my opinion.

Im going to probally go with the xenarc touch screen and make a custom docking station in the car for my laptop. It will remain hidden so you will no tbe able to see the laptop. My only reason for not going with building a custom mini computer is I have my car in brooklyn and no matter how i do the mount someone will be able to swipe it. Not to say that they cant take the moniter but better one piece than both.

I was thinking of doing the mount somewhere in the center console.

pretty nice, for a computer i'd suggest something like a Fragbox, those are pretty small and anice machine, format it or get a clean one with a blank harddrive, throw linux on it and youre set, buddy:thumb:

Theres more on the website but you get the idea.

How much did it cost and where did you order it from?

That guy gets a :thumb: from me..... Turned out great... on the A4 is it  So you can keep a labtop in the trunk, and do everything from the touch screen?... from starting the system up to shuting down..... Or do u still have to actually use the labtop to do certin things.

That is an A4.

It's a full operating system based computer, like the one you are using now. He chose to not run a laptop, which in essence is the better idea seeing how using a normal pc hard drive you'll get a ton more hard drive space for the money.

What he did was basically build a mini-itx motherboard based system, slap it all together in his own casing and rig it into his cd changer output that goes into the head unit.

The way I plan on doing is removing the head unit all together instead of relocating it, getting an amp to power the speakers and run strait fromt he mini computer's soundcard to the amp speaker inputs. This will allow me to be able to use my car speakers as normal computer speakers and with a decent soundcard, it can sound as good/better than a conventional head unit.

I ordered the one with AV inputs (Just is case i want an Xbox as well) for $510.00 no tax or shipping from xenarcdirect.com. You can get the one without A/V for 470. I thought the extra 30 was worth it.

If you are going to do a cutom setup i would also recommend the mini-atx. I just happen to have a sony vaio that fits the bill for me perfectly. But a little pricey if your only going to use it in the car.

To answer the question of if you still need the laptop. you can do everything from the touch screen :)

I have to give the A4 an amazing amount of credit that install came out perfect

That is absolutely sick. Would a screen that size fit into the 2g center console?

Im going to mod it so ill make it fit :). Ill post pics once i begin and be sure to detail every screw up so this way no one esle makes them :).

A friend of mine has a 91 talon so ill take a look and see if it could fit in :)

510-470 = 30???

Is this screen made for a car? If it is, what's the deal with them having AIM loaded on their demo pic? Can you really get cable to stretch miles behind your car??? And what if pedestrians trip and sue?

came out awesome. I am thinking of doing something similiar with the DSM. I have to find out what my electrical problem is first though.:(
