Is is possible to swap a 6 bolt auto in a 2g gsx automatic. I know that it can be done w/ a 5spd but can it be done w/ an auto to auto 7 bolt to 6 bolt swap?

yep I have done it and there is a couple of others on this site that I know have too(motors are the same for manual and auto trans) Have fun :)

So are there any issues like having to use 1g axles instead of 2g axles or 1g driveshaft or 1g TCU?

It is my understanding that you need to get a custom spacer plate for between the block and trans, as well as getting a custom torque convertor with bolt holes drilled for the *different* 6-bolt flex plate.

Other than that it will work fine. This information came directly from Kevin Kwaitkowski (sp), the 2nd fastest A/T in the country behind Russ Coxe, so I believe it to be 100% accurate. I just asked him about it since I'm building a 2.4l AWD AT 2g with a SBR GT12, 4000 stall, etc etc. car! :D

do you still need to do those things if you are using a 1g motor and 1g auto tranny? I can see that if you would use a 1g motor and 2g tranny that it would be necessary for that but what about a 1g engine/tranny swap? Can't you just drop in the 1g engine/tranny combo since its already together and bolts right up or is there an issue w/ the motor mount lining up?

No, the 1g has the mounts on the motor, and the 2g's mounts are on the transmission.

Also, the transmission is completely different from the 1g to 2g. The 2g's is superior, FWIW, since it's got a lockup torque convertor. I don't believe that the 1g and 2g's AT ECU's are compatable, but don't quote me on that.

yes but what I really need to know is if the driveshaft, axles, and all other items bolt up on the 1g auto tranny to the 2g axles and driveshaft. If that is possible that I will go ahead and swap it all 1g motor and 1g tranny.

No. It won't work, the ratio in the rear-end isn't compatable with the 1g trans, the t-case is different.

That's interesting reading, but unfortunately not helpful in this case. He wants to use a 1g TRANS in a 2g.
