vic,
are these the same engine with a diferrent code, or are they different?
bore, stroke, pistons etc.
i have a friend that is seliing a 4gcs and was wondering if some nice ross 4g64 pistons from magnus would do the trick
thanks

Motors aren't "re-coded". That doesn't mean internal bits won't swap-out. But for the pistons, ask the piston manufacturer. Wrist pin offset, deck height, ring height, land width could any or all be different.

thanks
does anyone who has done a swap with either motor know stuff about them?
i'm pretty sure that they are quite close....like bore, stroke etc....but just wonderin what the true differences are

I have 2 of these motors and just for a correction its a g4cs block. They come out of hyundai sonatas. I have a 1990 and a 1989 sonata block. The 89 is in my car right now with the stock pistons and rods with a 4g63 crankshaft. It makes a 6.9:1 compression 2.1 liter motor. No low end but tons of top end. Building a full stroker 2.4 g4cs motor right now. I will be dropping it in as soon as I get a new tranny. These blocks are so easy to come by and cheap I will never go back to a 4g63 block. Have fun!

Im building one now too. Where the hell did you get your gasket set from? I figure I can get them from mitsu for an 87 galant 2.4L. From what I hear the blocks are the same. Did you drill the coolant holes on the block? Email me: [email protected] and let me know. Im going to go with some 8.5:1 pistons and maybe some aftermarket rods, but that will be it on the bottom end. That should make a good base for a 450HP car... :)
