2G 4g64 rebuild

So I'm rebuilding my 4g64 sohc. Pretty much just putting new bearings and new rings on the pistons. Is there anything I need to do to the cylinder bores while I'm in there or anything?

The cross hatch is still visible and the bore is smooth.

U will want to at least de-glaze the bore with a bottle hone, id recommend a stone hone and good cleaning for good measure. Plus the stone hone will show you more of the taper and/or imperfections in the bore.

Depending on how far you're planning on taking the block, could clean up the oil passages and do all those simple mods for fun/insurance.

Past that, keep it clean.

Yeah I'm not doing anything special to this one. I'm just gonna put it back in my gfs car. Its just a 4g64 na 5spd

just hone the cylinders and blue print it. have crank, rods, pistons and flywheel balanced then you can delete the balance shafts. if you want better efficiency you can put the 4g63 head on. but 5 holes will need to be covered. or as is would be cheaper. NPR makes great oem replacement pistons.

Agreed, but if it's a basic "get it running cheap" thing, and nothing major happened, just hone, clean and go

Yeah it's getting NPR rings and king bearings. Well I guess I'll hone it. What stone should I use?

U can use the "dingle-berry" bottle hone, it conforms to all the surfaces so it'll prolly look cleaner, or you can use the triple flat stone type that's spring loaded. It will give u more uniform honing, but u might notice the point of cylinder taper at the top of the bore with it, as it won't reach into crevices. This would tell you how bad the taper is and if you should have it professionally honed or bored.

You can purchase either hone at most chain auto parts stores, just know the rough size of the bore to get the proper size hone (s).

If you've never done a home honing job, I suggest watching a couple vids on YouTube first, there's a technique to each one. You'll want a drill that at least can do ~2500 rpm and some oil for lube.

You have to be more careful with the stone hone, as it can score the cylinders vertically if you pull it in and out without compressing the springs. You'll see proper use in the videos.

Lol I was getting ready to ask about the dingle berry hone. That's what I was doing last night was looking at YouTube vids of how to do it. It seems pretty simple, how intense should I clean it after I hone it?
