I've searched and haven't quite found the answer I'm looking for. Are the 4g64 blocks out of other Mitsubishi vehicles the same? Such as 2000+ Eclipse, Outlander, Mighty Max, etc. I found a screaming deal on a complete 4g64 block but it's not out of a DSM. I know the heads, oil pumps, etc would be different, but I'm interested in just the engine block and it's compatibility with DSM engine mounts, heads, etc.

Thanks in advance!

2000+ blocks dont have front and rear motor mount bosses. not import if you have a 2g. also 2000+ have a different bell housing, they have the same narrow block bell housing as the older rwd blocks.

It's out of a 2003 Outlander supposedly, so I'd assume it's the same a the 3g Eclipse 4g64.

Yeah, it would be going in my 2g someday. So your saying a 2g turbo trans wouldn't bolt up to the 3g 4g64?

i dont believe it will. but to make sure take a dsm starter plate and check the bell housing bolt pattern

The narrow bellhousing is on DSM's, Mighty Max/D50, Starion/Conquest (some Colt Vista's I think) had the wider bellhousing.

To clarify, DSM's 4g63's have the narrow bell housing, the G4CS has the narrow bell housing, the 4g64 found in 2g convertibles has the narrow bell housing. I am not sure about 3g's but I would think they'd be the narrow housing. They probably just took the 2g convertible driveline and put it in the 3g. It doesn't make sense to bring back a bell housing size they haven't used in years.

The wider housing came in the Mighty Max/D50, Starion/Conquest...

So I went ahead and picked it up. For nearly the cost of a carton of smokes, I think I can live with it being a useless block. At least I could use the crank for a 2.3 build :hellyeah:.

So recap: This is out of a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander. Does this look anything remotely close to a DSM bell housing pattern? It looks a bit off to me especially at the lower right hand corner, but I don't think it's wide block. A picture of somebodies DSM 4g64/4g63 bell housing pattern would be nice. If it isn't the right pattern, luckily I live down the road from Jacks Tansmission. I'm sure they could rig up an adapter plate or maybe even a custom bell housing :D.

if i get my G4CS apart from the tranny in the next day or two, ill take a pic for you. i got 90 percent of it stripped down and labeled, just need to separate the two and stick it on an engine stand.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. After a little bit of deep searching on other forums, I've found out that the Wide Blocks have 13.5" between the bottom two bolt holes. I still haven't found out the narrow block width. I guess if it's not 13.5 I should be good, right? :p

Edit: Finally dug up that 12.5" is the narrow block width and that's what I got! Unless I'm supposed to be measuring between the two dowel pins, but I haven't found any info that says I should measure between those two points.

well, got the pics for ya. it actually spurred me to go clean up my shop mess and separate the tranny and engine....unfortunately, i wish i hadnt found what i did...7 bolts, and by the looks of it, a wide block...damn. maybe someone can confirm for me if this is a wide block or not. dont mean to thread jack, i need to go measure i guess.

looks like its not my coveted 6 bolt g4cs though, donno if i can even use it...

neway, i found the same info you did after i came back inside, but neway, heres the pics, cheers!
