I would first off like to apologize bc im sure this topic has been discussed but I feel like my qestion is pretty strait forward and could easily be answered. I have tried researching but mostly found dead end topics. Maybe I suck at search
.
Well here is the story,
I was cruising yesterday when I noticed a complete loss in power. I figured I just blew a boost hose off somewhere and thought I would just limp it to my friends house and park it until I could get to work on it bc I was snowing like crazy yesterday.
As I was chugging along I noticed my oil pressure gauge had went all the way down. I popped the hood and seen oil all over the right side of the motor where the timing belt us and sprayed up on the hood there. I didnt hear any knocking at all but and the car seemed to idle fine. So i limped it into the corner of the parking lot and turned it off. I am going to get it towed home soon and into my garage so I can pull the motor.
Now Here is my main question. What Is the first thing to go on a 4G63 when increasing performance? While the motor is out I want to rebuild it and rebuild it right. My goal is 350-400WHP and do not want to go past that. I am using this car as my DD until I graduate this time next year. Then I plan to buy a cheap honda for a DD and turn this car into a weekend warrior going to 1/4 drag strip sometime and just cruising to car shows and what not. Not interested in auto cross at all.
Ive read a little bit about 2g pistons but not much. I seen you can get parts pretty cheap from Mitsubishi Engine Rebuild Parts
Should I go ahead and throw in some hks 272's now while its apart? Or would my money be better spent on a forged higher compression piston?
I plan on putting in ARP head studs and rod bolts and a cometic head gasket. (Pretty sure that it the right one to get?)
And Im going to replace the front engine cover with oil pump, new timing belt, water pump, and everything else that I can while its out. (Is there a good complete timing/oil pump kit out there?)
So many question I know and im going to keep searching while I wait for replys. Thank you for your time reading this
I will take as many pictures as I can and detail them about the rebuild. Maybe this can turn into a good rebuild article?
