I would first off like to apologize bc im sure this topic has been discussed but I feel like my qestion is pretty strait forward and could easily be answered. I have tried researching but mostly found dead end topics. Maybe I suck at search LOL.

Well here is the story,

I was cruising yesterday when I noticed a complete loss in power. I figured I just blew a boost hose off somewhere and thought I would just limp it to my friends house and park it until I could get to work on it bc I was snowing like crazy yesterday.

As I was chugging along I noticed my oil pressure gauge had went all the way down. I popped the hood and seen oil all over the right side of the motor where the timing belt us and sprayed up on the hood there. I didnt hear any knocking at all but and the car seemed to idle fine. So i limped it into the corner of the parking lot and turned it off. I am going to get it towed home soon and into my garage so I can pull the motor.

Now Here is my main question. What Is the first thing to go on a 4G63 when increasing performance? While the motor is out I want to rebuild it and rebuild it right. My goal is 350-400WHP and do not want to go past that. I am using this car as my DD until I graduate this time next year. Then I plan to buy a cheap honda for a DD and turn this car into a weekend warrior going to 1/4 drag strip sometime and just cruising to car shows and what not. Not interested in auto cross at all.

Ive read a little bit about 2g pistons but not much. I seen you can get parts pretty cheap from Mitsubishi Engine Rebuild Parts

Should I go ahead and throw in some hks 272's now while its apart? Or would my money be better spent on a forged higher compression piston?

I plan on putting in ARP head studs and rod bolts and a cometic head gasket. (Pretty sure that it the right one to get?)

And Im going to replace the front engine cover with oil pump, new timing belt, water pump, and everything else that I can while its out. (Is there a good complete timing/oil pump kit out there?)

So many question I know and im going to keep searching while I wait for replys. Thank you for your time reading this

I will take as many pictures as I can and detail them about the rebuild. Maybe this can turn into a good rebuild article?

So tomorrow Im getting a new Oil cooler bracket gasket and the gasket that goes to the thermostat housing that sits directly against the head. I think I have to go to mitsubishi to get these parts which sucks.

Also two exhaust manifold bolts were already broke off when I got the car. Im going to get an easy out kit and try my best to get it out. Hopefully I have the motor and tranny back in tomorrow!! Ill post pics

I like the way you are going about this so far! Good job!

With the spark plugs removed, I would look down in the cylinders to verify that it has forged pistons.

With the higher C:R you are running and you living in OH, I would advise using E85 as your primary fuel (They do have a lot of E85 in your area correct?). Tune this all in and it looks as though you are going to have a fun car. Good luck!

Yes E85 is pretty easy to come by around here. I should switch to it. Just now im tapped for cash. Ill run this turbo as low as the wastegate spring will let me until I can upgrade the fuel to what it needs to be. Until then Ill watch my wideband to make sure it doesnt get out of control.

Well today I got the transfer case bolted up, driveshaft put in, axels put in, starter bolted up, slave cylinder bolted up, fuel rail installed, and some of the wiring harness. Tomorrow its the hard coolant line, thermostat housing, oil cooler and lines. Then connect vacuum lines coolant lines finish up the wiring harness.

Then install the fmic I got, put the radiator back in, bolt up the throttle body and button everything else up. Check all my fluids, connect the neg battery cable then try and turn her over. Im so close im getting very excited!!!

Still need to get that one last bolt drilled out of the head before I install the FP exhaust manifold and EVO3 16g turbo. Man is it going to be a pain :banghead:
