Well my buddy has a parts 4g in his garage and let me have the wheel off of it. I kind of liked the look of it better then the 2g and couldn't find any good pics of the wheel in our cars so I installed it. Well there's good and bad news...The horn and cruise working but no air bag all as expected... I feel like I wasted time trying this though because ill have to go back to oem eventually to avoid insurance issues if I ever have an accident with no airbag deployment.. heres what it looks like though...

Can't remember the guys "avatar-name" but he is a red 2G eclipse guy from Europe, his signiture says somethin like "bobby is to move to tampa" or some shit, he has a write up about installing a Lan Evo steering wheel wheel on his 2G and he managed to get his air bag hooked up and fully functional. I'm quite certain that if he could hook up a air bag out of a lan evo 9 steering wheel so could you from a 4G eclipse wheel.

Looks good, i was just talking with a friend that wanted to do this. and you got luky, installing an airbag from other car is just too stupidly dangerous to even try haha

it could deploy too late of too early making more bad than good.

Well, if you read your owners manual that should be in the glove-box, you'd know that at the ten years of age mark, the vehicle is sopposed to go back to an official Mitsubishi Dealership to have a true Mitsu certified tech double check and inspect your SRS. As far as insurance goes, I doubt it makes any differance unless your plannin on cashin in on some insurance deal when you wreck your car???

I hope im never in a situation where i have to cash out but if anything ever happens, ill be waiting for my money LOL... i actually did a little searching the forums a while back because i wanted an aftermarket wheel. Turns out the member had been told by his insurance that removal of the system would lead to no payout and termination in the event of a wreck..

I thought I would revive my old thread to add some new info I gathered today. I have read online that if you remove your airbag wheel that your insurance company potentially won't cover you in the even of a wreck (as I stated in my previous posts) but the reality is, I called my ins today and they said there is nothing stating I can't remove it in their policies. I've wanted to get an aftermarket sw for a while but been worried. Figured I'd throw this out there for anyone curious, could be different depending on ins companies though, who knows.

Air bags are tricky. Theres alot of sensors that need to be fluidly working to deploy an airbag at the right time. Like it was said above an airbag deploying to early or too late is very dangerous. I dinno about you but I wouldnt want to get my face viciously smacked at the most inopportune time in a wreck. If I changed it I would go without an airbag. But its still rolling the dice in my oppinion.

Yea, at this point I wouldn't mess around with trying to make the 4g bag functional...more interested in something aftermarket. Another catch is apparently it seems that every post ever pertaining to removing airbags states that its a federal offense and after some digging its kinda grey area(more meaning towards true though). Regardless though I wonder if its enforced since it isn't something my insurance seemed too worried about.

I'm sorry to bump and old topic but i recently did this to. Only thing is that i cant get the cruise control to work. Anybody who can help me? I need to wire the 4g stick to the 2g harnas

Haha just seen im kinda mentioned in this thread LOL, 3 years ago is along time to not see this thread! yes my aid bag does work in the evo wheel and and no lights are on and its deemed functional as far as i know unless i set it off,

I recently installed the steering wheel from a 2002 Diamante VRX into my spyder. Didn't need the airbag to be hooked up since I've removed the airbags from my car anyway. They do however have the same connector which is a plus if I ever decide to add them back. The only thing different was the cruise control wiring. But, I eliminated that problem because the 2 steering wheels have the same hole locations for the cruise control switch, so I swapped them.
