i have a 90 5spd awd tsi and i need to do the 4 bolt swap this winter.

i have two setups at my finger tips...just one problem the good one is $550 and the other is $150 because the lsd is fried.

Does anyone know of what parts i need to fix this? Is it even possible? Does anyone have the part numbers?

thanx in advance

I would just get the new one. One with a fried LSD could have other, expensive parts fried in it. By the time you are done you could easily rack up a $350 repair bill. As 4 bolts are desirable, there wont be too many people parting one out like 3 bolts. Try to talk the guy wiht the good one down like $100 and you are set. $400 is about the going rate of a good 4 bolt with the carrier around here.

good point. i just talked to the guy with the blown rear and he said i could disassemble it and see what it needs. soo if it looks fixable he'll take another 50 off. so that would be 100 plus some parts... so if anyone knows part numbers or exactly what i should replace if its just the lsd clutches.

thanx

Our cars have a viscous rear LSD, so there are no clutches to replace. it is the same as the viscous coupling inside the transmission. So the only things you would be able to replace are the ring gear, pinion, bearings, and shims. I guess crack it open and see what is bad. Just remember if there has been shit floating around in it, you should replace all the bearings.

I just picked up shim kits to fix mine. I picked up all the shims except for one before the crush sleeve, seemed rather pointless considering there was a crush sleeve and you can shim the bearing after it for the pinion.

these are the three kits I picked up:
MB569243 RR Viscous Coup
MB185350 Pinion
MB241903 RR Diff

How did the rebuild go on that? I've got my factory rear end laying in my garage with a few missing teeth. I'd like to fix it and sell the other for some cash. However I was told it would cost 500$+ to fix the stripped one.

Wait it out both prices suck. I picked up the whole rear carriage with all the control arms , 4 bolts rear, and axles for only 250
