Im sure this is probably posted somewhere ive been looking i found a lot of helpful info about all the engines that will fit in my car but basically i just have a quick simple question, I have a 95 eclipse rs, its got a spun rod bearing i bought a 98 eagle talon engine to replace it. They are both 420a's but my question is are there any little differences between the 95 and 98 motors like sensors or anything that will make it difficult. I was told by someone it might be hard because one it obd2 other is obd1 but the 95 is still obd2 isnt it? Thanks in advance

The 98 and 95 will have different ecu's and a few other things. But all you will need is the motor, none of the wiring harnesses. So If you just switch the block and keep every thing else(feul rail, wiring harnesses, ect..) then it will work fine with no mods.

Easiest way is to take everything off the new engine untill you have a block and head, and then take the new engine out and just transfer parts, all the senors will work guaranteed that way, btw while its out grease your throwout bearings and put some good fluids in there, i suggest some redline, oh and btw both are OBDII don't even worry about that

Oh also you might want to do a compression test on the engine to make sure everything is okay before you put her in there, you don't know where its been

Thank you guys for the very quick responses! Ive got the bad engine ready to be pulled out, hopefully will be able to install the new one tomorrow and get it running! Sounds like it will be a pretty straight forward swap then.

Well as usual things never go as planned when working on cars haha. I wasnt able to get the new engine until a lot later in the day than i expected. I did get the old one out and now I am debating on what all i should do before installing the new one. I have not separated the tranny and engine yet to look at the clutch but ive never inspected one before so im not sure how to tell if i need a new clutch and if i should replace it while everythings apart. I am planning on replacing the timing belt, tensioner, and idler pulleys. sort of running out of money fast but anything else I should do while I have the motor out?
