k went through searches but couldnt figure it out.
1) is the talon tsi cat the same length as the esi?
2) can i just cut my cat flanges off and weld them to a piece of tubing and run it without throwing codes?

i was told they make these adapters for o2 sensors that are like those adapters you put on a spark plug, and because of the spacing/more difficult route into the sensor it will read a cleaner gas signature. was i being BS'd by a guy or has anyone heard of this?

asking all of this because i recently destroyed most of my exhaust running over a dead deer on the high way. since i have a small crack in my exhaust manifold as well i was just going to buy a cheap cat back and header off ebay to replace it all ( cuz eff it, right?) and the cat on my car is hella old but is still intact. i have no emissions or safety checks where im at. if i can just delete the cat somehow thats more what im looking to do. i need a solution. i do not know much about screwing around with sensors and engine computers and stuff but im very mechanically inclined

i like electrical projects like that. any good websites to get the components? my radio shack just sells rechargable batteries and cell phones

ok so a test pipe is basically a pipe that replaces the cat im guessing? i was looking at a cheap header/cat back system for like 160. i just want to keep it from losing fuel mileage or power without an o2. and mine is a non turbo. talon esi. do plan on gettin a tsi next year. i just prefer the higher bumpers on the talons

ok cool i never heard that term before. i did a search on the radio shack site and the closest store that has even some of the components is 2 hours away. i may know someone who has that stuff on hand though. either way i think ill just build that bypass. ill get the components some how. its just ridiculous how expensive the hi flow cats are for my car

i think i'll build a test pipe out of the old flanges. or i might just make some flanges and stick them on a tube. the test pipes for my car are still like 80 bucks. you cool guys with your 4g63t's re lucky how cheap they are

Wow I guess I haven't looked in a while. It's funny how a test pipe is 80 but you can get a header off eBay for $50 shipped LOL

oh i know. my brother did an exhaust on his civic for all together like 150 bucks the cat was 30 bucks by itself. i think it's the o2 sensor being behind the cat that makes them more expensive or something.

the O2 sensor behind the cat only 'checks' to make sure there is a cat present. It does nothing else but check emissions stuff.

the front 02 is the one the ecu uses to read air fuel ratio.
