Picked up my first car the other day and I have been lurking the forums and saw that people post their stories, so I thought, what the heck.

Ive wanted an eclipse since I was about 8 years old (18 now) so I was looking on craigslist and saw a 5-speed 96 eclipse RS for $1,600 everything is stock except for the exhaust and it has a new air intake. I couldn't let this offer go so easy. I text the owner and says he still had it (I was pretty excited)

The only thing that is really wrong with it, is that it needs an alternator :( poo. Im pretty sure that there is a blown fuse somewhere because my right taillight is not functioning properly and I have no back up light response.( brand new bulbs) oh and the driver side door handle is unhooked, if that makes sense. basically, I cant open the door from the outside, I have to climb through the hatch LOL

Since the alternator was bad and I had to buy a new battery I talked the owner down to $1,250.

Note: this was the only eclipse around my price range that didn't need to have an engine dropped in it.

Here are some pictures of her I took today

I think its a pretty good buy considering the price and that it actually starts. let me know what ya think! :thumb:

It looks pretty clean for a 96 with original paint. Those rims aren't stock either.

If you take the inside door panel off (it's only 5 screws or so) and look at the inside of the handle you will see 2 rods and clips on th the door handle. It's either the plastic clips broke off or the rod slipped off. Check that out, there's a thread around on how to fix and install a new one if that's the case.

What are your goals and expectations with this car?

Good find! I like how you pictured the hatch open and not only open but open utilizing the hatch supports and not a 2 x 4 or golf club!!! That alone is worth $1250.

But then again it looks as though both of your door handles are malfunctioning which is a pain in the butt to fix. Not impossible just really annoying.

Anyway welcome to Tuners!!!

Yeah, the owner put acura rims on it because his friend was bugging him about selling the original rims that were on the car. And ive tried to take the door panal off, ive look inside the door and its seems that when you open the door from the outside the rod doesn't push all the way down on the aculator. I tried to take the door handle off but I don't want to strip the bolts so im gonna leave it alone for now.

but uhm, atm my plans are to get it running again and get it inspected but after that I want to install a turbo, it looks like he cut the springs to lower it a little because its not stock height, but eventually put some coil overs on it. and I want to do a 97-99 body conversion but im thinking about keeping the rear because you don't really see those bumpers any more, so I want to be a little different, and try to either find some oem rims or just buy some after market rims. oh and I definitely need to get a new short shifter because the one that's on it now isn't all that great. before the bottem end of the sshifter would bump into the bracket that bolted onto the floor. so basically when I would put it in first it never locked because the bracket was blocking the shifter from going all the way into first so it would pop back into neutral, and the same with second. I added a bushing to the shifter and it goes into 1st and 2nd fine but I want it to shift with ease so that's on the part list LOL.

Yeah they hatch is like brand new as to operation, I only have to lift it up initially and it rises by itself, no complaints there! LOL But yes I need the door handle fixed pronto, climbing through the hatch isn't well too comfortable LOL. and thanks ill be up here a lot, searching and looking stuff up and how to fix things

Well you definitely should read the upgrade paths on here so you know where to start. Matenience is key before doing aftermarket parts.

Oh yeah, LOL im not doing any upgrading without consulting my brother or this sight, the last thing I want to do is blow the motor because I didn't upgrade everything I needed to upgrade LOL! ill post more pictures tomorrow and maybe ill link a video so you guys can hear it :)
