Its has been awhile since I have messed with a DSM and have a trans question. The car is a 95 GSX if that helps and/or makes a difference.

Before I get started, here is what I'm working with;

New clutch and pressure plate, new TOB, oem (resurfaced) flywheel, new pivot ball, new clutch fork and new fluids. Clutch has been bled and both the master and slave are in good working order.

Alright, now that that is out of the way, just got the trans installed and went to run it through all the gears. 1st and 2nd are smooth as butter. 3rd and 4th are near impossible (without a bit of force) and 5th and reverse are just stubborn. This trans had been sitting dry for about a year to year and a half before I bought it. Would that make it difficult to move the shift forks? If so, will driving it in 1st and 2nd get the fluids moving and worked through enough to loosen everything up? I have to drive this car across the country, I know I know...that's a sketchy idea, and just need to make sure this transmission isnt trash.

Thanks in advance.

Have you driven the car yet? The transmission is lubricated by the front differential gear teeth bringing the gear oil to the top of the transmission where it then runs down drip rails to the gears. Without the wheels spinning you are not getting proper lubrication to the transmission.

With that said it is impossible to say what a year and a half of sitting has done to the transmission without actually inspecting it. If it was sitting in a fairly dry garage the whole time it is likely not to bad. If it was left sitting outside then it probably got fairly corroded inside.

I have not driven the car yet except for pulling it out of the driveway and turning it around. Maybe 2 minutes of drive time.

But it is possibly as I thought correct? Sitting could have the forks stuck and driving it may break them loose?

Well...trans was like I thought, just needed to be broken back in.

Downside...I started driving back to Kentucky...oil feed line for the turbo broke somehow and the car is back at my buddies house. Getting on the greyhound now for a long bus ride.
