Do you mean 33deg up top as in 5500+rpm or 33 down low. Be more specific. But.....if you dont have a chip your probably having the same problem i am cause i see upwards of 29. Then only think i can tell you is either get a chip, or an afpr and lower the fuel pressure. That will apparently offset the timing and lower it so the car doesnt run like a dog.
 
theres no way in hell that that is the only way to turn the timing down, my car is stock and i see upwards of 30, i also heard that 23 is the magic number...
 
i too am seeing about 33* but just like cruising at 3k-4k. i do have an afpr but dont you want it to be at 43 psi (for 2g but i do have a 6bolt...). timing at idle can range from 3-9*.
