has anyone tried retrofitting 300zx projectors in 2g headlight. my friend gave me his for free and i already got 1 projector out. i plan on using them with hids. any input would help

why would you do such a thing? projectors with hids in a 2g headlight has been done many times and they dont work well.the projector sits too close to the headlight lens and with the hid in there, the heat melts the lens...hid's and projectors dont mix, especially if its going to be daily driven....good luck..

WTF?!?!
Where are you getting your information from.

I've had 2 retros on my car (working on number 3) and I've never melted a lens. Not to mention many friends with projector retros that have had no issues on their cars either.

Projectors are the right way to do HIDs, if it wasn't then why would 95% of all cars with OEM HIDs use projectors.

To the OP, the projector wasn't designed for HIDs so it won't be perfect however it will be better then HIDs in stock Halogen reflectors. Get an HID kit and try it out, I've got no experience or knowledge of the 300zx projectors.

Shit I think its more than that. More like 98% of all cars. Cause only a few cars, Mainly Infiniti cars, have D2R HID's. Nissan Maxima, Infiniti... Whatever that thing was I pulled HID's from. And A Couple Cadilacs or whatever here and there. Oh yeah, Altima SE-R, and Acura RSX. Which both of them use A D2R/H1 HID Bulb.

And HID's in the NON HID Projector housings still work just fine. They have a good enough cutoff that blocks any light from going upward (haha my mom says thats just not natural as her new car is the first car she's had with real Projectors) and put plenty of light on the ground. However the main difference is the lens. The lens isn't sharp like HID Projectors. So the Cutoff is blury compared to the sharp cutoff with HID Projectors.

I know you allread have the 300zx projectors but perhaps look into the J30 projectors. They are quite a bit bigger and IMO look better once retro'd
