Hi All,

I've got a '98 Talon TSi FWD and the moonroof leaks.

Anyone had to repair this? Is it just a matter of replacing the outer seal?
Could this just be the drain tubes? If so, where are they and how do I clean them?

I didn't find anything with search or in the tech articles.

Thanks!

The other annoying thing the moonroof does is "pop up" just a little when all the windows are closed and I'm on the highway. It's enough to add significant cabin noise.

Dude im having the same problem when it rains really hard though. I dont see any debris in the moonroof though so i guess it could be the seal.

Almost everybody has bad seals on their sunroof. Even with bad seals, you should not get water falling in the cabin, though. If water gets inside the car, make sure nothing is blocking the entrance of the drain tubes, then run a very long piece of mechanics wire (or some-such stiff but flexible wire) through the drain tubes. (This is also a good time to clean the drains for the rear hatch.)

Make sure the rear of the glass is about 1mm higher than the front of the glass, this will help keep water from pushing past the rear portion of the seal.

If you still get water in the cabin, replace the seal.

If the glass moves more than an 1/8th of an inch when you push up on it, you need new guides and/or tracks. You can deaden the noise a bit by adding heavy grease to the tracks. Replacement is the only cure for the movement, though.

Can anyone link me a schematic of where the drain tubes are?

Do I need to remove anything to get at them?

No, you don't need to remove anything to get a wire down them.

Yeah, that's what the manual says too (and is why I ran the search and came across this thread). I don't understand that. Mine's always been flush, right from the factory. I can't see how lifting the back up and away from the seal could possibly help the problem. Please enlighten me! :)

My plan was to replace the seal. Was hoping I might be able to do it without removing the glass, sounds like a bit of a pain to get it all lined up right (not to mention hazardous to the glass, should I err). That part about having the front 1mm down and the rear 1mm up is really throwing me though.

Well, mine is tight all the way around and it only leaks in the left front corner. Am I left with the seal replacement as my only option? Is it possible to slip a new seal through without removing the glass?
