just need to know if there would be any gains from a 2g intake manifold i was told by someone locally that has made some pretty fast dsms that it does? Just seems hard to believe that smaller air flow = gains? Just need an answer yes or no and why!

the 2g manifold has to be matched to a 2g head or it will leak if you try to put it on a 1g head, along with creating extra turbulence if you're lucky enough to get it to seal. the 2g head has different port design that gives the air a straighter path into the combustion chamber than the 1g head, and along with smaller ports in the head and manifold, will increase velocity of the air which helps in the low end power. the 2g manifold also gets mated to a tiny tiny throttle body, so if i were to do a 2g head and manifold conversion, i would just have the hole in the manifold bored to the 1g throttle body and use a 2g elbow.

The 1g flows more air but the 2g has higher air velocity. The added air flow will help in HIGH Hp numbers but velocity is a beast on it's own.

If you want faster velocity then swap your head for a 2g head and bolt on a Evo3/RVR IM (uses 1g 60mm TB). Otherwise just stick with the 1g style IM regardless if it's stock, Cyclone or a SMIM.

and to add, the 2g takes better advantage of the velocity being 8.5:1 vs 7.8:1. i say leave it go unless you're set on doing this, but you will need a 2g head, head stud holes bored out, and the oil port mod. plus if you use a 2g head and keep a 1g exhaust manifold you will need to drill the 2 outer stud holes as 2g uses larger studs for the outer 2 to help with warping.

basically if you're not shooting for tons of power, it will help add some low end power to the low compression 1g engine. if shooting for big power, stick with the 1g head design as it will outflow the 2g head in large top-end numbers.

thanks guys needed answers cause everyone was like yes and then no and i was all mixed up. But the 2g maf is still a good idea right? just trying to get all my ducks lined up before i get a chip

Yup the 2g maf is not as restrictive as the 1g maf so you can swap that out. I don't know how it affects your fuel trim off hand so you'll want to look up information on that swap.
