My check engine light has been coming off and on here and there, I'm pretty sure its a common problem with some DSM's because I owned a talon before my eclipse and it did the same thing..so the results reviled I have a bad EGR Valve and Map sensor...I just bought a map sensor off of eBay and was wondering if I should fix the EGR valve as well? I am getting a little rough idle as well as bad MPG...I am going around 210 miles on a full tank. Also I am getting my car looked at next week...when I start the car in cold weather it squeaks...I am not sure if its the belt or tension or pulley? hope all goes well and I can get all the problems fixed ASAP!

You could just block off the EGR valve, as for the squeak I would check the tension on the belts. Or have someone else start it while you listen under the hood….to see where it's coming from.

I always have to tighten the alternator tension bolt and it will stop squeaking for a while but it comes back.

I had the same problem with the alternator belt ^^^. Make sure you tighten all three bolts involved with the alternator. As for the EGR valve, I'm getting the same CEL. How do you block it off?

Just look up 420a egr block off kit on ebay and you can buy the block off plates for like $15. Also I would try to find one that comes with gaskets, one less thing you have to worry about.

What exactly does the EGR block off plate do to help anything? And I'll be sure to look one up for the 4G64 engine that I have.

Thanks for the link. I am a N/T, but the Eclipse GS Spyder is a unique breed. It's the only one with the 4G64 2.4L SOHC instead of the 420A or the 4G63 2.0L DOHC. I wouldn't have expected anyone that hasn't dealt with the Spyder personally to know that off the top of their head. I just thought I'd let you know.

I would check the belt tensioner and the also the belt itself to make sure it not frayed or cracked anywhere
