Hey all, did a search and found some mixed reviews on whether or not to run a relay harness for our cars. I'm going with a 35w 6k bulb temp HID setup, anyone with a 2g have experience whether or not we need the relay harness? It's an extra 20$ which I don't mind spending but if I don't need to then I wont.

Thanks

No, you do not need it. Hell,. Ive been running the 55watt for 2 yyears with no problems.

I had a 35watt 6000k system in my 2g eclipse plugged into the factory wires and it melted everything.
Spend the $30 and get the relay kit for piece of mine.

Wow, I usually don't have luck with anything on my car. Agreed, for peace of mind, get the relay. This makes me want to go outside now and check my wiring.

I know azdave has been running his HID retro with the factory wiring, no problem.

Personally I'd do one just to be safe.

A true HID kit runs cooler than those so called HID output bulbs. Also, true HID kits need projectors or you'll just wind up blinding oncoming drivers.

If your wiring is not up to snuff then get a relay. The only time you will melt the OEM harness is if the wires are not up to the task due to corroded connectors from road salts like found back east.

Everyone I know in the local 2G scene here in AZ run OEM wires but we are all corrosion free so I guess we are lucky. I've run OEM wires for almost 5 years and my HID function as DRL so they turn on everytime I start the car.

i think you only need to run relay if you install another set of hid's. like the headlights. if you just use them on your driving lights then no. if you have them on your foglights then you need them.

ive been running mine for 2 years with no relays. never had a problem what so ever with a cheap set of ebay ones. no melting wires i wouldnt worry
