I was wondering is there a way if I remove the door panels on my 2g but keep the switches for windows and door lock in the car but remove the inner door panels.

If I understand right you want to remove the plastic panels but leave the switches in there still functioning. To do this you would need some custom mounts at least for the switches as they bolt into the plastic door panel. The door lock bolts right to the metal skin of the door along with the door handle.

Remove the door panels (easy) then unscrew the switch box from the door panel. Plug the switch box back in and you're good to go. finding a way to mount the switch box may be a challenge but for a while when my door handles broke I had the box just dangling around for use if needed.
