Ok guys, let’s see if someone can help diagnose my problem ….
I recently did an AWD swap on my ‘97 Spyder so my issue is now referring to an AWD setup (donor was a ’97 as well). I recently filled my car up for the 2nd time since the swap (might have overfilled it but not to the point where fuel was coming out of the filler neck). From the gas station, I went straight home (4miles) and parked the car in the garage. In the morning, the garage reeked of gas. So I jacked the car up on the passenger side, and sure enough approximate a ¼ cup of fuel leaked out onto the floor – nothing more, nothing less. It’s not like it was pouring out as if the tank had a hole. It appears this ¼ cup of fuel collected in the skid plate and then when I jacked the car it leaked from one of the skid plate’s many holes that were formed when the plate was manufactured. I’m sure the fuel traveled to the lowest point when I jacked the car and thus leaked out. So I’m now trying to determine the cause of this leak? I highly doubt I have a hole in the tank or fuel would have been pissing out as I still have just under a full tank. My car also holds fuel pressure after the car is shut off for the typical hour or two. So a hole in the tank would cause me to instantly loose fuel pressure once the car was shut off, right? So based on a process of elimination, where could this leak be coming from?

1)The filler neck connection to the tank?
I highly doubt that as I installed a worm clamp on that connection and based on where it’s located, the fuel would leak on the floor – not get caught in the skid plate

2)The filler vent connection (I believe this is the connection that tells the pump to shut off when filling, right?)
It could possibly be leaking from this connection as I only installed the OEM hose clamp (spring clamp) so not sure how tight that connection really is. However all that passes thru this line is air, right? Any thoughts on this as a possible culprit?

3)There are those two rubber gaskets that seal the fuel pump / sender assembly (passenger side) and secondary fuel level sender assembly (driver’s side). If fuel was leaking from here, it would collect in the skid plate
Could fuel really leak from here? I could see if the car was upside down but sitting level wouldn’t gravity keep the fuel in the tank? Any thoughts on this as a possible culprit?

4)The “purge solenoid” (I think that’s what that thing it) that connects to the charcoal canister
I highly doubt it’s leaking from this as this is probably the highest point in the tank and doesn’t this line only carry fumes? Any thoughts on this as a possible culprit?

5)The line that connects the driver’s side secondary fuel level sender assembly to the passenger side fuel pump / sender assembly
This could be a possibility but what is this line really for? Any thoughts on this as a possible culprit?

6)The passenger side fuel pump / sender assembly leaking?
If it was leaking from here, wouldn’t I notice fuel constantly leaking from underneath when the car was running?

7)Fuel line, return line & charcoal canister lines.
I doubt it’s leaking from these and if it was the fuel would be pissing on the floor, not collecting in the skid plate

8)????? anything I didn’t think off ?????

Any thoughts on this guys??

my guess would be one of the feed or returns lines. Remove the seat and pump assy. cover to check if there is fuel on top. Also, If you weren't careful with the feed line it can crack and have a very small ans slow leak.

I had a problem before with the cover for the tank when installing a fuel pump was not sealed properly. You sure you got the rubber sitting on the inside and its sealed tight/flat/etc. If not when you fill up with a "full" tank it will seep out of there and you can smell that gas around you and esp inside the cabin.

Agreed, ^^^ that rubber ring turns to a gummy worm after a while and that point is not the highest part of the tank. If you have the threaded cap instead of the 8 8mm bolts, those kinda suck.
