Saskatoon,
I know the 20g is a damn solid turbo, but it seems like anytime people ask a a question about it there are always responses like "for the price of a 20g you can get a way better turbo". I am in the market for a turbo myself and am looking for about 450 whp. I would like to know about these "other" turbos that are in the same price range yet way better.
If anybody has the answers hit me back

Rob

The turbo those people are most likely talking about are the bolt on t3/04e 50 trim hybrids.

The T04E 50 trim wheel that everyone speaks of is rated for 450 hp, although plenty of people hit mid 400 whp with these turbos.

Whether or not they are as reliable is up in the air. I personally would go with a turbo from MHI, FP, or a full Garrett.

essentially the 20g is a 50trim . . . . I would personally go with PTE if your considering a cheaper 20g alternative. http://www.extremepsi.com/store/customer/home.php?cat=506

Although, my ideal pick for a fun 400whp is the Evo316g with meth injection and cams! Just think, for the price of the 20g (1,050 on avg.) You could get an E316g ($450), a set of BCrower Cams ($315) and a meth kit ($250) and be having some serious fun!! That is still less then the 20g!!

so this is a summary:
Mitsu Internally gated 20g
Total: $1050 (or more depending on the wheels you want)
or
EvoIII 16g
BCrower 272/272 cams
Meth/Water Injection kit
Total: $1015

LOL at the methanol injection. Why make it that much of a hassle. If your wanting 450whp your gonna want something that is probably a little bigger then a 20g.

T3/60-1 520whp 699.99
T4/60-1 585whp 815.00

Both turbos and prices were from www.full-race.com. Either way it is best to use an external wastegate (trust me i have internal). So even with a 20g (unless you use internal)you will need another exhaust manifold.

Yea you could go with an Evo3 16g and come out way cheaper. But if your price range is 20g then with 20g+ power. Even the T3/60-1 on 17 or 18lbs and pump gas will lay waste to anything a little 16g has to offer.

I just dont like 16g's LOL

Part A + part B + part C will not always net you the same results as someone else. 400 whp out of an Evo III regardless of what you do is not easy, and the number of people who have done it (mid 40 lbs/min airflow) isn't exactly staggering. While I agree that meth/water injection, cams and an Evo III would be nice I believe in the end the 20g would be a better turbo if you were looking for 400 whp.

Full spool around 3800rpm.

Depends on the exhaust LOL. I run 3" downpipe w/ a 3" HRC test pipe. Thats all, so its basically open downpipe. I dont start gettting boost until around 3000. But i have mad top end, i even build horsepower past 6000. You AWD guys will hate that, but im FWD so i just spin with alotta bottom end LOL

How fast does a 50 trim spool compared to an Evo 3?

That depends on the boost level. I see 20 psi by 4000 and 25 by 4400 on a 2.3. Having come from the 16G camp, there's no comparison. If you want faster spool and plenty of breathing up top look into the ball bearing 50 trims.

i run a Buschur Racing 20g with 2g exhaust manifold to match the turbo with an extrenal HKS gate on my car, and love it. This same turbo has proven track times by guys that work for Buschur Racing and is good for the 450hp area. also depends on proper fuel and air management as well. But i am sure that you already know that. PM if you have any questions about this setup. I am acutally about to sell this setup and jump up much higher.

A friend of mine runs the Buschur 20g. Its TD06H 20g intake side, and on the exhaust side its 16g housing and 20g turbine wheel. His turbonetics wastegate is built in to the O2 housing but recirculates back so there it no dump tube. Do you have the same turbo? I know your wastegate is different but he runs a stock 2g manifold also, its not even ported. If so that is one badass setup. The car is AWD so it jumps so hard and has mad topend. Everything a car should have.

mine to the best of my knowledge is a true 20g setup...and housing.

i used to have a small 16g and switched to this turbo and yeah it has crazy pull and i like it alot. i am just going to gooooo HUGE and see what happens. i want some crazy numbers on my car i think. and if it doesnt happen., then oh well...

LOL

Well if your lookin for crazy numbers at least you have a turbo that is capable of it to some extent.

Crazy numbers arent nessecarily 1000HP. GT42R is not something that is considered streetable. Gettin 450-500whp outta a little 4 cylinder would be considered crazy in my opinion as far as a streetable car goes. Thats a ferrari killer right there LOL

right well the motor already turns to 8500 or 9k already.

it was built by John Shephard, i have a AEM EMS already, NX wet kit, Shep Racing race trans, HKS Cams, everything is done to the motor and most things done to the car as well. Just going to retune the car soon and before i do that i am going to switch to a tublar manifold,Gt35r or gt40r, 1000cc injectors and some drive shaft shop stuff

sounds like a plan to me...what do you all think?

yep...kinda a once in a life time thing...i trailered he car up there to him...he installed my AEM EMS, NX kit, rebuilt the tranny..did the bottom end, and got BJ cyclinder head to do the head. John installed the cams also. he did some cleanup under the hood of things that i dont or didnt need anymore.

did a damn fine job in my opinion

Thats pretty awesome. Im definately gonna be slapping his Stage 2 FWD tranny on my car in the future.
