Just secured a Protege MP3 engine/ECU for swap into this old girl. She’s at 230,134 miles on the original engine, clutch, and trans. Neighborhood mosquito fogger here on startup. Clutch is slipping a bit and she burns a quart of oil every 200 miles . The gas mileage is still incredible though, even with the worn engine. I can drive 60 miles round trip to work 5 days a week on a tank of gas, and still have some left over. The 5th gear in these is pretty high RPM. The trick is keeping RPM high in 5th with minimal pedal/throttle input. Not an expert, but it feels like the momentum of the high RPM carries it a lot.
