I was told the 1gen intake manifold flows better than the 2g mani. Is this worth the swap and is it a direct swap with no modding?

From what i've read on here you can swap it with out changing the head but there maybe some sensors you have to change to make it work. Try doing a 1g intake swap on on a 2g it should give you the answers you need.

there would have to be some kind of adapter plate made, 1g ports are twice the size of 2g ports.

I'm running a 1g manifold with a 2g head. It's a head off of a '97 (small ports) with my stock intake manifold (big ports). I can't verify that it's the optimum configuration, but it does run, and well. I don't know what would happen if I went with a 2g manifold, and I don't really have the $$ to try : D

The manifolds have different mounting for coil packs, otherwise I think they are almost identical aside from ports and all that.

Same here.My whole drive train is 97.I swapped a couple months ago because of a boost leak.Workn great so far!

The ports on a 1G and 2G are different. You will need to port match your intake manifold to your head if mixing the two.

no you would need to match the head to the intake, the intaske is bigger

I didn't exactly say the intake was the one that needed ported... I just said that the intake manifold would need to port match the head. :thumb:

I'm sure I could have said "make sure the head's ports match the intake" to be simple.

This is not true. To have a car you can drive around just like every other car out on the road you don't need to touch anything, just slap the 1g manifold onto the 2g head. I'm sure the 2g manifold on the 1g head will work fine too.

I might be giving up power, I've never had a before and after on a dyno. I can tell you this, of the three heads I've had on there (regular 1G, 1G small port from a 1.6, and 2G) none have felt any different with the only intake manifold I have, the 1G big port manifold from the original engine.

It can be done. However, the amount of time and effort you will have to put into it to get it right will be significant. I was going to do this until I realized, after a lot of searching, that it would be better just to buy a high quality cast or SMIM.
