what are the diffrences between a 1g turbo head and a 2g non turbo head. Would there be any performance gained or lossed and in what areas?
thanks

The 1G turbo head is superior. The differences are quite significant - are you certain you want a break-down? ;)

Yes. I, for one, would love to hear you educate us all as to the numerous superiorities associated with the 1G turbo head. I think many of us would love to see the data you have which backs this up.

I've set this topic to notify, as I can't wait to hear this one. :sneaky:

Err - I was thinking of the turbo head differences between the generations. I can't spot any differences between the 1G turbo and 2G NT, in fact without having one in hand I don't see any indication that they couldn't be swapped either - will it really not fit?

(I'm not accustomed to the phrase "non-turbo". Traditionally that would be "NA".)

Ahh, indeed - what I thought was a 2G N/A head turned out to be a 4G63T head as well - no wonder. Oh well, some help I've been here, eh?

2g nt has a completely different engine, the whole thing is backwards.

1g non turbo and turbo = 4g63
2g turbo = 4g63
2g non turbo = 420a

WTF
well while on the subject i got a few ?'s myself i have a 2g 4g63t and i have heard of people switching to 1gt head for hp gains? and 2g head with 1g cams does this really do anything? cuz i got a old 1g turbo head layin around and a set of tools and bored hands id love an excuse to put my garage to work and ive also heard of people usin 1g tb's on there 2g does this do anything? cuz i got a 1g 91 tb and a 93tb and they are quite different would this be anything to consider also? any insight?

1g head, the passages are larger then 2g head, making the 1g better stock.

1g cams, the cams are more aggressive. there is a thread about the cams for each year, I am not expert on cams so I can not help you too much here.

1g throttle body, larger then 2g, more flow

stock 1g head is better than a stock 2g head, but if you go into porting, the 2g head is much better i know that, im pretty sure because 2g head has less drastic angles going into the combustion chamber if im correct, which im not sure if i am

To be more clear on my previous post. If you have a stock 1g head and stock 2g head side by side, the 1g is better because the passages are larger.
However if you port BOTH heads, the ported 2g head will be better then a ported 1g head.

The 1g turbo head will bolt right onto a 2g block, the heads shape and what not is the same, the only difference being the passages.

1g and 2g turbo heads are totally compatible, there is no modification nessesary to make a swap from 1 to the other
