would 1g thermostats housing and neck fit on 2g head, just bought a water gauge and dont want to drill on my thermostats housing or the neck, somebody told me just get the 1g thermostats housing and neck because there's an extra hole where i can tap my sensor for the water gauge.

You sir are incorrect. The 1g housing will fit the 2g head, but the 2g housing will not fit the 1g head.

You don't have to get a 1g housing to install a water temp gauge. IF you install the 1g thermostat housing than you will have to install the 1g water pipe. You will also have to cut the counter weight off the transmission and run a 1g lower radiator hose for proper clearance. You can easily remove the factory sensor for the gauge and install the sensor there. Even if you have to drill and tap the housing it is still going to cost you less money and take less time. IF you want to keep the stock sending unit than you can also drill the housing in a different location and thread it.

thanks for quick reply, so it will fit. thanks again

IT will fit, but as i wrote above it isn't just as simple as bolting it on. You will need the 1g water pipe and lower radiator hose as well. The counterweight will rub the hose if you don't cut it off the shift linkage also.

oh man, I just bought the 1g thermostats housing LOL. I guess I'll follow your advice. I thought it was just plug and play and I know about the lower radiator hose but not the water pipe.

This I didnt know. I couldnt tell from the pic that there was a hole already there. Thanks for the clarification. Even though it does fit thats a lot of work just to change the water necks.

I did not have to cut the counterweight off on my '96 FWD w/ 6-bolt swap.

I'll see if I can fix that picture up a little better... I thought it was fairly clear but I spent a good amount of time staring at the heads as well. :p

EDIT: Here's a thread that asked the same thing: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/cylinder-head-short-block/383080-assembling-my-motor-some-stupid-questions.html
