well this 1g tb been sitting in my room for like 2 months and i am gonna put it on, just want me make sure i didnt mess anything up, i used goof off to clean inside the TB the gold part and brake cleaner around it i think i will usea dremel tool anything else i should do and how much HP will i get from TB and if i port the intake manifold
thanks

well i used the dremel for my first time and i hope i didnt #### anything up casue it looks like shit, what should i do or it doesnt even matter once i put the gasket on it??

Might want to resurface that a little smoother and dont use something that will grind it down, just a pad that will smooth it out. You could of just used some brake cleaner and a scruff pad to get the face cleaned, but now it looks like you should probably go over that with something smoother. good luck :thumb:

your not supposed to clean it!! cleaning the tb can mess it up, as far as gains on the t25 I saw significant top end and low end as well as much better repsonse. It gave the car a much better punch anywhere in the power band, but make sure you port the intake manifold to match or youll be wasting your time...

Have you replaced the shaft seals yet?
If you haven't, spend the extra money and replace them while it's off the car.
Also, test the ISC. It's easy to change while on the car but why wait if it's needed.

As far as cleaning the inside of it. You're not going to mess anything up. Just brake cleaner would have been fine though.

Hopefully you didn't ruin the surface of it with the dremel. I hit lightly with a sander wheel just to clean the surface.

Mid range, top end and responce seem better. As far as horsepower, it's not a huge gain.

After you get it back on, pressure test the system. Even with new gaskets, mine had some slight leaks. A light coating of RTV on each side of the gasket fixed that problem.

where can i get the shaft seals and why would i need them, what are sighns they are bad? and u said i might of ruined the surface if i did what could happen... what should i do like use real thin sand paper and sand it down?

Shaft seals: For one, after a while the heat will cause the rubber o-ring shaft seals to dry out and crack. This can/will cause a boost leak. Since a 1g throttle body is pretty old, why wait when you can do it while it's off the car. It would suck to put it on and then have to yank it off because it's already leaking. Plus they're only $11.00. I feel do things right the 1st time.
You can get them here.

How to put them in:

and

If it was me, I would also put a new BISS o-ring in there while I was at it. They're like .35 cents at a hardware store....#5 o-ring if memory serves.
If you also want to do this, let me know and I will tell you a pretty easy way to reset it after you replace it. DO NOT unscrew it before I tell you how to mark it easily. The way I was taught will get it back close to the way it was set when you got it.....then again, this can be done pretty easy with it on the car. You could do a leak test first to see if it's leaking. Up to you!

Ruining the surface: Again, this deals with boost leaks. If you gouged the surface or made it really rough, the gaskets might have a hard time sealing the TB to the intake mani or the TB elbow. A flat, clean, pretty smooth surface is what you want.
Again, if you have problems, you can use a very thin coat of RTV(black high temp) on both sides of the gaskets. That's what I had to do.

Do buy new gaskets! I would get them at the same place where the shaft seals can be bought.

I may be anal but I've learned the hard way to do things right the first time. Saves the headaches of later tear downs

thanks for all ur help really appraiate it, now about the TB should i sand it by hand(really fine sandpaper) or just leave it and put the RTV on it?
thanks

it doesn't

I had a 1G TB for awhile, but went back to the stock one. For me, the gains didn't outweigh any benefits I felt. It wasted more gas because it would idle a lot higher on startup, and the difference in throttle response wasn't that great (to me at least).

Well your idle could be several problems....BISS screw not adjusted properly, throttle plate not closing properly, FIAV, etc, etc.

As I said above, I didn't see a huge gain either....everything logged through DSM Link. My opinion is it will be more benificial if you upgrade your cams. Although I did see better midrange and throttle response.

"should i sand it by hand(really fine sandpaper) or just leave it and put the RTV on it?"

I really can't judge it by your pics. If your work is pretty smooth with no huge gouges, etc. I would just leave well alone and try it.
I'll tell you though, I will never put one on again without the RTV. I had to re-pull mine because my FIAV was bad. The RTV came right off with no hassles. Just try not to put much on. VERY light and smooth it very thin with your finger. Also try not to put it right up to the edge where the airflow is. The RTV will slightly squeeze and you don't want it in the intake tract. Now it dries quickly so work fairly fast. Last but not least, you don't have to crank those TB bolts and nut on as tight as they go. I tightened mine fairly snug, let it dry a while and re-snugged it.

Everybody has their own way to do it. This way worked for me.

I'll tell you. A dremel will suck for opening up the intake mani.......will take a long time!
If that's what you plan to use, you may want to find the carbide tip they sell for it. It looks like a drill bit but cuts metal(using wd40 helps to cut it also). It will still take a good amount of time.

Good luck

in pic #1 i know its hard to see but all the way tot he right see the black area their oil their what could that be from?

and pic #2 my 2g TB has 2 nipples and the 1g has 4 do i just cab off the other 2?

the best thing I have found for sanding something like that is a flat piece of glass. Make sure it's thick enough to hold up. stick sand paper on it and sand untill all you can see are scratches from the sand paper. I think 180 to 220 would be fine. This will also sand out any warpage or imperfections of the flat surface.

I always use copper coat for stuff like this. Even if I used a new gasket I would use a fine misting of coppercoat just to fill any possible imperfections. It sprays on so you get an even coat without the extra gobs that silacone can squeeze into unwanted areas. You can get it in any auto parts store. Make sure you get the aerosol and not the stuff with an applicator.

On the back left of the valve cover, pointing right at your throttle body, is the pcv valve. If you removed your hose that leads from it to the intake, the maybe it is vented excess pressure from your valve cover and blowing on your Tb.
Disregard all of this if you have the hose on, obviuosly.
Just a thought. ;)
